To play MP3's over my stereo, from my laptop, I know that I can use the laptop's headphone out to connect directly to my AUX IN of my head unit (or even the CD changer plug, with an adapter).

But I listen to Sirius radio most of the time. And that uses the AUX IN.

So, if I wanted to use the GPS that I'm buying for my laptop, is there any way to get the GPS voice to sound OVER the radio like an integrated stock system does? I'm guessing not and that I'd have to have the AUX function selected when the GPS is working, so I can't actually listen to Sirius and have the GPS audio on long trips.

Anyone run into this problem before?

Well most people go full integration. Meaning for sirius get the ALP1 tuner, and the sirius to usb, and plug that in the computer. The computer will mix with GPS and send it out to the amp or in your case the HU.

You can only have 1 input at a time. So your computer must do all the work and feed your HU. Get sirius tuner for the laptop. GPS for the laptop, and if you want terrstrial radio, get the HQCT. Then you won't need the HU any more.

But I really don't want to replace my Sirius receiver (the Sportster replay with the 45 minute pause/Rw/FF feature is great, plus it was a gift to me).

Idea: what if I hooked up the audio out of my Sirius unit to the Mic (line) IN of my laptop, and the laptop A/V out to the A/V in of my head unit? I wonder if that would work. I could leave the head unit on "AUX" all the time and have the Sirius or DVD or MP3 or GPS coming through theoretically at the same time (switch between sources at the laptop screen or leave the Sirius & GPS on all the time. The MS windows volume control would control the relative volumes of the two sources)

Is there any reason why this would not work???

Yes it will work for sound assuming you have a program that takes the audio in and streams it to the wave channel for output and not just stores it to the disk.

Also there will be no control over the unit from the laptop. So you will have volume control now on 3 devices (HU, laptop, Tuner) as well as buttons to control everything sprawled out everywhere.

Not optimal in my opinion, but whatever work for you.

No, it's certainly not optimal, but I want to make the most of the equipment that I already own.

I was planning to use the laptop's volume control to only control the volume of the laptop devices (MP3/GPS/Sirius tuner) relative to each other. I would set it and forget it. The head unit would control the master volume of the system.

Program for thet audio in? I'll have to look into that, it never ocurred to me. Thanks...

you explained how you are hooking up the sirius but how are you hooking up the Gps audio?

when I plug my sirius sportster into the line in on my carputer, it plays over whatever I have the carputer doing. (unless i mute that line)
I tried plugging the Sirius into the mic in line, but like he said, you have to have a program to play the mic input.

another idea... how about trying a Y cable for the line in input? someone will probably tell me how wrong and stupid i am but hey... just another thought for ya.
