Building a touchscreen?

Being a broke college student I really shouldnt even be thinking of a carputer but the double din in my Accord is too perfect..

I wasnt even planning on going touchscreen until I found this site so I was wondering if it is a reasonable idea to buy a used/cheap 7in monitor and then a TS kit for it? It seems to be cheaper.

I dont need that good of quality either so if you know of some touchscreens that arent the best video quality, i don't plan on watching too many movies while i'm driving

and yes.. i searched for this but no one really commented on if it is a "good idea" to go this route.
thanks

Bad idea, drop it now. Save money buy good screen. Search ebay for cheapie if you want to by a junker and replace it next week.
Dont build your own, will not work, you will need too much and will cost more.

Unless you get real lucky like I did. I got 2 LTM08C351 panels for £36 on ebay, added touch panel, touch controller, backlight inverter and LVDS receiver for about another £160 and I now have an 800x600 8.4" touch TFT with LVDS interface to the PC for less than £200.
And it works very nicely.

My lilliput 7 in widescreen format was about $180 so it kinda tough to beat that kinda price from what I can tell.
