LOL yeah you have a point, next thing I'll do is to measure the idle power consumption of my subwoofer amp and the radio. I do want to run the computer and listen to music occasionally with the car's motor off. I also want to browse in the satellite images with the navigation software with the car's motor off.

Well the video acceleration of the Intel onboard graphics is extremely good. And 3D is no issue.

Now it's madness.

1) I removed the Nvidia graphics card. I plugged my Lilliput monitor back to the mainboard VGA port and my NEC 2080 monitor back to the mainboard DVI port. Rebooted.

2) I uninstalled the Intel Express driver. Rebooted.

3) Upon reboot, the NEC monitor came up black and the Lilliput monitor came up with 800x480!! The monitor properties dialog confirms 800x480 and the Driver is shown from Intel Corporation, Version 6.1.0.929 . The aspect ratio seems correct. The monitor shows 640x480 in the on screen menu which is to be expected. The image looks good. The monitor properties shows only 800x480, no other resolutions.

The problem is, I have no clue how I did it! All previous attempts at installing 800x480 drivers gave error messages. So apparently one of my previous attempts at installing a 800x480 driver came through. Now I'm afraid to change any settings because I could loose the 800x480 again. I guess I'll create an image of the hard drive to have something to revert to.

Hi!

I am using an Intel mobo that comes with Intel 815 chipset video card, and a Lilliput 8" 889GL (800x480 native).

Can you help me enable the 800x480 resolution? Is there a driver for my chipset?

As a test, I downloaded the EGD 5.1 drivers from intel, but the setup says "All the components are not installed correctly. Please try installing again"

Please help,
Thanks a lot

Hi vladcarpc

I received the same error message many times!

If you have the patience, please try installing the driver in a fresh Windows install that has never had another display driver installed!

I write this because the readme file from Intel suggests as much.

Are you sure that 5.1 is the latest version of EGD for your chipset? The version I have is 6.1 but it's for the 945GM chip set.

When I strugged with getting 800x480 on my 855GME, I finally figured out that when both a "signed" driver and* the intel one is installed, windows will pick the one that's signed, and not by the last driver installed. To overcome this, go to "update driver", "Advanced", and then "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install." Here you can pick whatever you what. That way you can override XP's tendency to choose the "signed" driver.

Yes your trick works! Now I have the Intel IEGD 5.1 drivers installed. Btw, the new 6.1 version doesn't support the 815 chipset, thats why 5.1.

Now, I need to find a way to set the 800x480 resolution.

If I am not wrong, Giuliano was creating a driver using IEGD for a custom resolution of 800x480, right?

I read the thread but, from all the links I saw, there is not one that uses IEGD 5.1, right? I may have missed it...

whoo hoo, I helped.

Instead of waiting for Giuliano, you also have IEGD (obviously), so you can do your own. If you have a xenarc, you can try the settings linked from the first post on this thread. If you have a lilliput, you can try my settings. I'll have to post them later since I don't have them at work with me.

So vlad and psyrex: How did you overcome the "All the components are not installed correctly. Please try installing again" problem?

psyrex: can you be a bit more specific what you did before you did the "update driver".

Or are you guys saying that you did not use the installer at all? Instead you just point the "update driver" to the .inf file in the Driver directory?

Hi, using psyrex tip, I went to Device Manager, right click on my display adapter, update driver, select "No, not this time", "Install from a list or specific Location", "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", "Have Disk..." and point to the IEGD driver folder (there is a /driver subfolder wherever you unzipped the IEGD zip download. This is the only thing I did, I didnt uninstall previous drivers, or other steps.

Thanks psyrex. Yes I use a Lilliput 8" widescreen.
Please, post here your settings. It will save me the trial-and-error time .

Sorry, I didn't realize you had the 8" widescreen. This was for the 7" widescreen, so sorry, I don't know if this will work for you.

PixelClock 38400 <-- this will give you 73Hz refresh. You can try playing around and to get close to 75Hz, but I didn't feel it was as stable as this number, which displays fine

HorzActive 800
HorzSync 32
HorzSyncPulse 56
HorzBorder 0
HorzBlank 252
HorzSize 25

VertActive 480
VertSync 3
VertSyncPulse 7
VertBorder 0
VertBlank 20
VertSize 16

Again, this is for the 7" widescreen 800x480. These numbers are a combination of powerstrip's settings and some stuff I found on this site.

Hey thanks! I will try these settings.

But now I need to figure out how to apply these settings. Is it in powerstip or should I create a custom driver installation?

What is the best way you recommend? Should I read the userguide.pdf that is in the intel IEGD driver?

Thanks again.

You could also just use the reg file linked from the first post of this thread and edit it to use my numbers. What I meant was that I got my numbers from powerstrip and other places (horizontal was powerstrip, vertical was elsewhere), not that the numbers should be entered into powerstrip. Sorry for the confusion. If these numbers don't work for you, let me know, and I'll point out how I got my numbers from powerstrip, and maybe that can help you find yours.

OK, I got the reg file and opened it in notepad. The registry keys dont exist in my machine, I know that the big {number} key changes for every card type, but in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Video\{...}\ 0000 I dont have other subkeys (such as ...\Config\1\Port\5\General, in fact nothing beyond the \0000).

I searched the registry for the reg values named PixelClock, HorzActive, ... but not found anywhere in the registry... My card is intel 815 based, maybe its very different from the other model...

I know it doesn't exist. The reg file creates it. After it's created, you can continue tweaking it by changing the numbers (remember it usually displays in hex) and then rebooting.
