For power users, here is the 6.1 "gold" driver that installs nicely and has a configuration editor to create custom EDID DTD's (well, it installs correctly anyway, on my Intel-powered lappy, 965GM Express):

http://www.intel.com/design/intarch/...cs_drivers.htm

Working with it now. I think I'm on the right track, if the right track means I have created and saved a custom DTD for 800 X 480, and am now creating a configuration to use that DTD, then once finished, I guess I will create a driver package....and install it.

In the IEGD configuration editor, which system bios port belongs to which device? I have listed:

1 CRT
2 TV1
3 EP1
4 LFP
5 TV2
6 EFP2

The actual devices on the laptop include the internal display panel, VGA port, and TV out port. I have LVDS named "Laptop LCD screen" and configured to use driver built-in standard timings, and CRT named "VGA out" and configured to use my user-defined DTD exclusively (I think). Now, I just need to know what physical ports to map them to from the above list (I think). Anyone care to take a stab at it?

PixelClock 38400 <-- this will give you 73Hz refresh. You can try playing around and to get close to 75Hz, but I didn't feel it was as stable as this number, which displays fine

HorzActive 800
HorzSync 32
HorzSyncPulse 56
HorzBorder 0
HorzBlank 252
HorzSize 25

VertActive 480
VertSync 3
VertSyncPulse 7
VertBorder 0
VertBlank 20
VertSize 16

Again, this is for the 7" widescreen 800x480. These numbers are a combination of powerstrip's settings and some stuff I found on this site.

Where are these numbers going to be most useful for me? I have a 945GM based system using a 7" Lilliput, so this should work perfectly - if I can figure out what to do!

I've seen people talking about installing the regular drivers then using a .REG file; I'm comfortable doing this if I can figure it out.

Also it seems to be you can BUILD your own drivers with the IEGD v6.1 system, but I find that very confusing and any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Reviewing this thread and others of it's ilk, I believe an older version of the Intel package builder was what Giulliano was using to make the .inf file text and drivers he was offering.

I think I've got most of the 6.1 driver package build process figured out, but I'm having trouble with bios port selections at the end, among a few other things. That user guide is useful to a certain extent, but in places, is unclear to the novice driver builder (or someone like me that's never built one before). That, and I know merging a .reg file would also be easier, but I'd like some clarity before I attempt it with something that was written with another driver package for other hardware in mind.

I think I'll just start some trial and error tonight; I'm too anxious to wait for some of the gurus....

I don't think that matters at all, since we're just trying to build drivers, and not a video BIOS.

I've created a package... 800x480 does not show up in the slider bar to select. If I try to select it from the Display Adapter tab, things get a bit screwy. The Lilliput then says it's displaying at 640x480 and the bottom chunk of RoadRunner is cut off.

okay...I've had some limited success with Giuliano's driver package for Intel LVDS on my Dell Inspiron 6400. For reference, I have the 1680 X 1050 widescreen monitor and VGA output (with a Xenarc 7" on it).

Upon install of the drivers "as is", my Xenarc comes up at 640 X 480, and my laptop display doesn't come up at all...unsuccessful, right? Well, if I go into display properties with this config, from the Xenarc, I can see that my laptop display panel is indeed present...but only has one available resolution, 800 X 480. Well, at least one of my displays has that resolution available. This led me to believe that the devices were "mixed up" in the driver (settings for Zenarc on VGA output were going instead to the laptop LCD and vice versa.

After downloading and installing the Intel 6.1 embedded driver set, and learning about the driver package builder, I discovered (and asked about, above) the ordering of ports that the video bios looks to for discovering what sort of hardware there is to talk to on those ports. Thinking that this setting might be the culprit in Giuliano's drivers, I monkeyed with it a little. Here is what I found:

- The setting for ordering of ports is a number (found in the ssgid.inf file, "portorder"), five or six digits long, that looks like "540000". The "5" indicates what settings should be sent to that port position, the "4" does likewise for the next, the zeros indicate "don't look for anything here". The numbers correspond to the settings you find elsewhere in the .inf file, and where you'll find the 800 X 480 resolution listed as what to give the display if the display has no EDID information.

-Giulliano's drivers for LVDS all seem to order the ports "540000". This doesn't work for my setup. If I switch this instead to any number with a "5" in the second placeholder (like "450000"), then the Xenarc comes up at the proper 800 X 480 resolution! However, the quest isn't over. Seems the laptop display boots to a blank screen regardless. I'm working on it. So far as I can tell, the display either isn't getting a proper default resolution upon boot, or the number in the first placeholder might be wrong. No matter what I put there as far as numbers go, I don't get anything (however, I don't see other settings for other numbers, so not sure if anything other than "450000" is going to work without further mods to the ssgid file). My feeling is that something is wrong with the settings for the LVDS panel listed under "4" in the ssgid file. There also may be a conflict with the "driver default" resolutions available to this driver.

I've tried to do my own package with the 6.1 builder, but it's a no-go so far. I'm hoping to make more headway tonite. Failing that, I will research doing a separate hardware config for each of two situations...when I want to use the Xenarc, and when I want to use the laptop in stand-alone mode.

Sounds like good progress

Out of curiosity, are what Vista Experience scores are you getting (if you are using Vista) and is it displaying the full Aero interface?

I get that error if I run the setup.exe...the only way to install is to specify drivers manually.

Update driver...
No, not at this time...
Do not search, I will choose the driver to install...
Have disk...
Browse...
(specify folder "driver")

ok, i'll throw my hat into the ring also. I have an intel 915g chipset and a lilliput 889gl widescreen. I was able to successfully use the drivers from post #25 on page 2, [Thank You Giuliano] however the image seemed too tall, although it did fit the viewable area. also the driver only allowed a 60hz refresh rate which makes the simpsons look choppy(a cardinal sin). the lilliput thought it was running at 640x480 per the on screen menu.
it's so close, what do i need to tweak this?
thanks

What I did:
1) Reinstall XP (not really necessary)
2) Install Intel EIGD 5.1 driver (because of 815 chipset)
3) DO NOT REBOOT after driver installation
4) Open the psyrex .reg file and change the GUID to my GUID
5) Import the .reg file (double click it)
6) Reboot
7) Windows started with the screen streched up (couldn't see the top of the windows). This is because psyrex .reg was for a 7" Lilliput, and mine is 8".
8) Installed powerstrip
9) Reboot
10) Opened powerstrip "Advanced Timing Options" and clicked a few times on the Blue arrow (right "cross", bottom) and the screen started adjusting and it fixed on the right proportions. Here is the screenshot of the settings that worked ok:

I have a onboard VGA with intel 815 chipset and using Lilliput 889GL-80NP/C/T (widescreen, 800x480).

Thanks a lot psyrex for all the help and the reg file!

Also thanks WiCKeD 5.9L who started this thread and also Merzbow for that post with the original reg file.

I just followed these instructions and the display manager in windows shows the resolution set at 800x480, but the screen is reporting 640x480 still. I am running an 810e on the 5.1 driver since they dropped it on later drivers.

ideas appreciated! I feel like this is progressing a bit though, so I am optimistic
