Mounting my Datalux and VGA cable question

Please forgive me and the dumb post--- I'm new to all of this..

I am going to attach a RAM mount arm to the back of my Datalux monitor and attach the arm to the face of my dash.

The question... I need to get the VGA cable through the dash and down to the computer under the passenger seat.

Options...

1) Drill a big enough hole to allow the DB-9 to fit through (this would be a huge hole in my dash)

2) Cut the VGA cable and drill a big enough hole that the cable alone could fit through and then re-attach the cable (how much signal would I loose if I did this?)

What other options can you all think off?

Thanks,
Greg

Thanks,

Well if you dont mind reattaching the cable once it is passed through the hole, that is what I would do. I dont know how easy it is to reattach the connector the the wire though. MY personal philosophy about this entire project is to be able to go completely back to stock if I wanted to. If you dont mind drilling a big hole, then go for it

you could always buy a new connector and solder the new connector on (as long as you know which wires go where!)

you could always take the display apart, if you unscrew the black barrel out of the back of the display the connector will fit through the threaded hole in the back. i'd try that first.

Methinks he was talking about putting large holes in his dash (as opposed to the lcd casing). And I have no idea what your dash looks like or where you're mounting your screen, but id first try to route it through any existing openings/seams/vents in the dash and use them. Otherwise, id opt for the small hole and soder over a giant db15 sized hole. But it will be a pain to soder most likely, with all the grounding and sheilding wires in the sheathing to get in your way.
