LCD Screen is flickering...how do i fix it.

Little background since this is my first post.

I am running an older hp pavilion desktop, home (110V) 14.1" LCD display, and a 400 watt power inverter. I just finished installing the display, and hooked everything up in the passenger floor board of the car......temporarily for a test run.

With the computer turned off, the display shows a no signal image, but is steady with no flicker. As soon as i boot up, the screen starts to flicker.

Anyone have any ideas for me to try?

is the display right next to your computer or a powersource, amplifier, or speaker? If too close, you may get some flickering.

The display is going to be molded into the center of the dash. The computer was about 2.5ft away. The power inverter was about the same distance as well. Amps are in the trunk. Speakers are in the door. The only 2 pices of electronics close tho the lcd is my pioneer headunit which is right below it, and my car's ecu which is about a foot behind the display.

Invertors put out a whole ton of noise on the power lines, you need to look at putting something to smooth it out between the screen and invertor or look at a way of powering it with a DC-DC psu. The reason its stable without the pc is simply because less load generally means less noise.

Try changing your refresh rate. That might not get rid of the flicker completely, but it can make the flicker flicker differently (more tolerable).

What would you suggest to smooth it out? I can't power it with a dc-dc psu because it is 110 volt striaght to the monitor, or were you refering to the computer itself?

I figured that a 400 wat invertor would be plenty big enough to handle just the screen and computer.

You could tried using ferrite beads to smooth it out. You could also try to supply the inverter with a clean 12 volt source (eg. powering it on at home with a atx psu) and see if you still see flickering. If you do, then its probably the inverter that is at fault and there may not be anything you can do about it (because most inverters are modified sine wave). You would need a pure sine wave inverter to correct it.

well, i ran an extension cord out to the car and hooked everything up to that. Problem is still there. I updated the driver for the display with no luck. What else could cause this besides a messed up display?

let me rephrase ... the display isn't flickering......more of a dancing (for lack of better words) It is mostly noticable at the left and right edges of the display
