Lilliput EBY-701 / 629

I'm working on a new project; my car PC in my Subaru SVX. Anyway, I've reached a bit of a quandry on the screen question; should I use a Lilliput 629 or an EBY-701?

There's a slight cost differential, obviously. That's not THAT critical... realistic price difference is minimal. However, reading through threads here I'm a little dubious about the fit of the EBY-701 in a double-din slot in the dash.

Now, for those familiar with the SVX (and those not), you'll know that the double-din slot in these cars is completely standard, but is also a VERY tight fit for double-din. There's very little "slop" room for error, so getting a screen in this dash is going to be interesting. I'm not afraid of a little custom-fabbing, and from a scrapped SVX I've been able to procure a complete stereo chassis so I can bench build.

My quandry however is how well these two monitors are going to fit. I'm not afraid of a little custom fabrication, but I'd like to be able to build it out in such a fashion that I can still close the door that goes over the stereo in the SVX... it gives the dash a nice smooth appearance when cruising with the windows and roof open

Now, screen qualities aside... looking solely at physical dimensions, what does the "panel" think? The cheaper EBY-701, or the more expensive 629?

Secondly... is there a difference in quality?

It's not that cost is no object here, I'm doing this project using a lot of parts I already have on-hand, but still doing it right... but obviously if I can save $50 or so then I'll be a happy camper. But if it doesn't fit, I've just wasted $200... and if the screen quality is at all difference I'll be decidedly unhappy.

Thoughts, everyone?

Bump!

No-one? I'd presume at least someone here has experience with both. If it helps, I'd like to know if the EBY-701 will fit properly in a very tight double-din slot (no headroom or "footroom" to spare), recessed into the dash.

I plan to custom-fab a bezel, so that's not a problem... I just need to know if the screen itself (minus existing bezel) will fit in the space.

I have the EBY-701 for my car, has a standard double din as well (95-99 Talon/Eclipse) and the EBY-701 was PERFECT. I had to do zero modifications for it to fit.

the 701 fit nicely in my subaru forester. I only needed to mod little bit of the center console, but that was it. No need to take apart the LCD screen, but that don't matter if you're going to do a custom fab.

My guess is that you need between a 1/4" to 1/2" of space around the double din for it to fit, that just a guess. Your best bet is to search for measuments. I think someone on this forum posted them.. not sure though.

I'm not sure how you plan on mounting it, but I've had both monitors and picture quality seemed almost identical.

The 701 has internal dimensions (the panel only) of 109mm x 170mm
The 629 is 106mm x 165mm

The external measurements can be found in the mp3car store information for each of the monitors.

Excellent, thanks. In that case I'll probably go with the EBY-701 for my project.

Yeah, it's probably going to be a custom bezel... but the less I have to customize the better If I can just get it to "just fit" then I might not have to do as much custom fabbing... at least for the "first pass". I can always do the custom fabrication later when I know exactly how I want it to look.

I'll start posting some details of my build when I get a chance. I just bought a new camera, at least in part so I can document this properly (my old camera was stolen). Should make for an interesting read
