I'm working on a new project; my car PC in my Subaru SVX. Anyway, I've reached a bit of a quandry on the screen question; should I use a Lilliput 629 or an EBY-701?
There's a slight cost differential, obviously. That's not THAT critical... realistic price difference is minimal. However, reading through threads here I'm a little dubious about the fit of the EBY-701 in a double-din slot in the dash.
Now, for those familiar with the SVX (and those not), you'll know that the double-din slot in these cars is completely standard, but is also a VERY tight fit for double-din. There's very little "slop" room for error, so getting a screen in this dash is going to be interesting. I'm not afraid of a little custom-fabbing, and from a scrapped SVX I've been able to procure a complete stereo chassis so I can bench build.
My quandry however is how well these two monitors are going to fit. I'm not afraid of a little custom fabrication, but I'd like to be able to build it out in such a fashion that I can still close the door that goes over the stereo in the SVX... it gives the dash a nice smooth appearance when cruising with the windows and roof open
Now, screen qualities aside... looking solely at physical dimensions, what does the "panel" think? The cheaper EBY-701, or the more expensive 629?
Secondly... is there a difference in quality?
It's not that cost is no object here, I'm doing this project using a lot of parts I already have on-hand, but still doing it right... but obviously if I can save $50 or so then I'll be a happy camper. But if it doesn't fit, I've just wasted $200... and if the screen quality is at all difference I'll be decidedly unhappy.
Thoughts, everyone?
