Xenarc Meta FAQ

This thread is intended to address all the questions we've been having with the Xenarc monitors. I'll do my best to update this as I get new information. I ask others to leave this thread alone and PM me any updates or revisions so I can keep this as simple as possible. Also, please PM me with any questions or problem you may have before contacting Xenarc. Most of these issues are simple and can be addressed internally.

SPY SUPPLY DISCOUNT
Spy Supply has agreed to cut all MP3Car members a $20 discount on any Xenarc 7" monitor. Just mention your from MP3Car when you place your order and they'll give you the discount.

IMPORTANT NOTE
While the documentation for the Xenarc may claim it to work at up to 30v this has been proven fatal to a number of units. After extensive field testing it has been determined that the voltage tollerances should not excede 14v! Doing so will cause the voltage regulator of the unit to fry, a $60+ repair by Xenarc. It is highly recommended that the montor be attached to a regulated power supply such as a DC/DC PSU or a specially purchased cigarette lighter adapter with built in voltage regulator. As always, when working with electronics, observe proper safty precautions.

XENARC FAQ

MY XENARC SAYS 700Y-Y WHEN I ORDERD A 700TS/TSV

This is a due to a labeling issue. All screens that were shipped out with the group buy. Apparently the 700TS was so new at the time that labels had not yet been printed.

MY TOUCHSCREEN DOES NOT WORK

Ensure you have the correct version of the Touch Screen software installed for your operating system. Also, when installing the software DO NOT CHECK PS2. That option should only be used if you connect the touchscreen to the PS2 mouse port on your motherboard via a serial to PS2 addapter.
AT THIS TIME THIS HAS NOT BEEN TESTED

MY SCREEN HAS BURNT OUT PIXELS / IS DIRTY

Bad pixels are rare. Odds are you have a piece of dust caught in between the touchscreen and the LCD itself. To see if that is the case start playing a video file. Look at the monitor at a steep angle. If you can see motion, the pixel is fine and you are looking at dirt. If you see no motion and the pixels are lighted (usually a greenish color) then your monitor is defective. Contact Xenarc for a replacement.

MY MONITORS DONGLE HAS COMPOSITE VIDEO INPUTS. DO I HAVE THE 700TS/AV?

Unless you ordered it, probably not. All of the Xenarc monitors PCB's have wiring locations for the touchscreen PCB and the AV PCB. This was done to save on manufacturing costs. Only the presance of this PCB will make those inputs active.

MY MONITOR/OS WONT ACCEPT 800X480 AS A RESOLUTION

This screen size is obtainable with Powerstip. Even when the monitor is set to 800x480 the OSD still reports running 640x480. If you consult page page 3 of the instructions, about midway down, it says "640x480 expandable to 800x480". This leads us to believe that this screens native resolution is 640x480, however it can display 800x480.

MY MONITORS PICTURE IS WAVY/UNFOCUSED

This is due to a refresh rate issue. The monitors native refresh rate is between 60hz and 75hz. Any of those rates will work. Note that this is a LCD and as such is flicker free, unlike a conventional CRT. If this does not correct the issue use the "Adjust CLK phase alignment" setting on the on-screen display. Consult your documentation for further details on that feature.

Updates to this FAQ can be e-mailed or PM'd to me. See my profile for my e-mail address.
