Lilliput Touchscreen control not recognised
Ok, so i've searched but with no answer to my question, so here it is:
I've just put in my lilliput T/S (it's an EBY-701) and i've installed the TouchKit driver/application without anything going wrong. After that, i opened up the touchkit software and went to what i think was "add touch controller" or something of the equivalent. It does some processing for about ten seconds, and then comes back with the results telling me:
2 serial ports scanned
touchscreen devices founded: 0
touchscreen devices added: 0.
Now there's something i find odd about this. First of all, i have 4 usb ports on the motherboard, not two. So i thought that hey, maybe it's just scanning some of the ports and not the others, so i did a switcheroo with some of the usb devices but that didn't return any of the results i was hoping for.
It is worth noting, that the way i have the touchscreen usb hooked up is that it goes usb port on motherboard --> usb hub --> touchscreen usb. I haven't taken everything out yet and seen whether taking the hub out of the equation fixes anything being as it's kind of difficult to get to, but if nobody knows why it would be acting in such a way i may have to try it. I just thought this might be a common problem that is easily fixable.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks, Bryce.

Is the usb hub a powered or unpowered hub? Try not using the hub just to see if it works. When I had touchscreen problems, they turned out to be a power issue (I was feeding the LCD too low a voltage). Maybe check there?

the usb hub is powered. Unfortunately it's not too pratical to try it without some sort of extension or hub, being as all the wiring for the computer is in the trunk, meanwhile all the wiring for the monitor is up front and already layed out under carpet/around things etc.... so hopefully it won't come down to having to try it that way, but if it does then i suppose i'll just have to rip everything out. Anyone else have any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

Uisgdlyast - i've been away for about a week, just curious to know whether or not you've found a fix for yours yet? I'm putting off what i think will be inevitable, pulling a whole bunch of stuff out to try it wired directly, but if you've found a solution i'd like to hear it

I always recommend a TS to be plugged directly into the mobo. No hubs. Because of this. Is doesnt happen to everyone, but it has happen to quite a few including yourself and I. Some touchscreens just dont like hubs and I have no idea why. Should be that hard. Just get an extension cable for a couple dollars and route the TS to the mobo. Since your mobo has 4 ports, it should be no problem.

2k toaster, thanks, i was curious to know whether this was the likely cause or not and knowing that it's happened to yourself and a few others is reassurance that i'm not going to be wasting my time pulling everything out. Looks like a job for tomorrow afternoon . Thanks again.

Hi, yesterday was "day one" of my install.
Today, the TS didn't work, and wasn't being detected.
I was using a long USB extension cable. I tried to reboot and plug it to a powered usb hub, instead of the long extension. It was recognized, I did calibration.
It worked for a few minutes only, then TS stopped working again and not being recognized, again...
You mentioned that hubs are not recommended, so I will stay with the USB extension, but does the size of the extension matters? I am using an old mobo that has only USB 1.1.
Thanks

I think I remember seeing that the recommended maximum length for a USB cable was around 11 feet. I'm using an extension cable and it's working very nicely.

OK! I am using 2 extensions, I will replace everything to a single extension that is under 11 feet (which is around 3.3 meters). Thanks!

You can usually get away with 5m, but 3m is about the most you should go.
I would try it with a shorter cable, and if tht doesnt fix it, then perhaps a PCI-->USB2 might be worth a shot.

I removed the extension from under the carpet and it was damaged! It seems that when I installed back the cover near the door, it press the cable and it was damaged.
I replaced the cabe, but to a shorter one (3 meters) and it is working now.
In fact one wierd thing happened. Controller was recognized and I calibrated it. I was using the plastic pen to touch the screen. Then I started touching it with my finger, after a while it stopped working. I had to reinstall the Touch software and calibrate again.
Do you think it was a static charge from my finger to the screen? :/
After that I am only using the plastic pen.
