Did I kill my Lilli?

So here's the deal...messing with the system last night...monitor power cord must have been frayed or something because when it touched a grounded metal part of the car there was a big spark and then immediately the monitor refused to even show the standby red power light. Doesn't turn on, nothing.

Sure sounds like a power surge fried it. Is there a fix for this? I looked at the board inside of it, hoping there was a fuse somewhere that could be easily fixed, but that was asking too much I guess.

Is there a fuse in there that I missed?

And if not, is there at least a decent chance that I could buy a broken replacement screen (one where the LCD was shattered or something, but not fried) and just swap out the rear circuit board in the monitor for one that hasn't had heavy amp loads flung at it?

I'd like to replace a component for less $$$ than buy a whole new unit.

If not, the next step is to buy one off someone where the touch screen element is busted and just swap my good touch screen out.

I assume this is the model I have. It's been 3 years since I bought it and I forgot the part number. I'm guessing that the 619 is the only one that uses that exact style plastic housing.

there is a fuse in there, right bt the DC jack there is a white square with two silver ends, that is a fuse.

Also if the fuse isnt blown, then check what the voltage regulator is putting out. Those are an easy fix. Good luck.

Let's pretend for a second that the voltage regulator was ****ing me off because it seemed to have a short in it (obviously a short, everything powered on but dimly, and the voltage was low) and I just took the egg out of the circuit.

Would that be bad?

The Lilli worked fine after I took out the voltage regulator. It wasn't until about 20 minutes later when the wires got crossed that everything went haywire.

But when I do get all this put back together is there a problem with skipping the voltage regulator? My car outputs a pretty constant 12V. It's good about that. But is this a bad idea anyway?

Don't use it without a regulator.

Also it is better to use one other than the one supplied, because they are crap, as you have seen.

I have got a proper 12v reguator that I can power a number of screens off.

But the regulator I was referring to was the onboard regulator. Probably 5v or 3.3v. It should be in a TO-220 package close to the power jack.

Probably not.
If you use inverter in the car, yes a 12V wall plug will do it. Or you can just use a 12V coming out of the PSU (Yellow is +12V and Black is -).

That'd be a pain in the butt. The power supply and inverter and all that business is in the trunk. The last thing in the world I want to do is run another wire under the carpet up to the dash. That was a royal pain the first time.

I will gladly accept links to online stores that sell regulators though...

looking at\one of the two I have in front of me there is a chip with B1203 written on it, looks like a very small 7805

The B1203 is just a high-current transistor. It doesn't regulate voltage, but there should be a chip for regulation somewhere.

Well let's not get ahead of ourselves here. The fuse the enforcer mentioned is most likely the problem based on the symptoms. The death was sudden, and after a short in the power line. A fuse is 98% likely to be the culprit.

I'll deal with on board voltage regulators only when I have to.
