Make sure the bezel isn't pushing on the screen anywhere. Did you test the screen before you molded it into your dash?

Anyway, gooddeals sent me another reply. Looks like I'm gonna get my screens afterall. Here's the message I got:

My apologies - Tracking number will be sent very very shortly - This will be on its way tomorrow morning

So I take it that this dealer only has no more of the 8 inch monitor?

They should have more 8" screens in stock by now. I was told a couple of weeks ago that they were backordered for about a week.

Anyway, another update, they e-mailed me a UPS tracking number today. I tried to see when UPS' prospective arrival date is, but it says they've "received the billing infromation" from gooddeals18, but have not necessarily received the pkg for shipping... I'll update as I get more information. There's a chance I could have my screens by the end of the week! Only 1 month of waiting! WOOT!

They might send out tracking when they put it into the truck, but won't have more info until they do an end of day upload (after they do the last package of the day, they do a batch upload to UPS).

Typically you won't see that unless the product is in the truck.

I ordered the SHK804 8" model the first week in August for $163.99 plus shipping ($181.25 total) and received prompt e-mail notifications. Unit shipped to my house in under a week. If works well inside but haven't viewed it in the car. The touchscreen works well under WinXP but had problems in Gentoo live install CD (need proper driver config here).

For those of you who have yet to tear down the SHK804 unit, be careful with the touchscreen cable. It is located on the left side of the unit (front view) and very short so it is easy to torque the board connector up. There are four corner screws plus side edge-snap grooves holding the front and rear halves together.

The touchscreen is attached to the front bezel via retaining clips AND double-sided tape. Fortunately, only two of the strip sides were exposed (top and bottom since clips hold the left and right sides). I worked from the top middle with light force and used a retractable blade to work the tape free.

The inverter and controller boards have A0550-INV0 and A0530-G0/S0 markings. The main controller board has a TORiSAN SLA4028F4L part. The panel has the following sticker "B/L 080SV03-3 1355 021106 ST3". Based upon some brief Googling, I think this is a SANYO unit? I saw references to Samsung in earlier posts so maybe that is for the 10.4" unit only, or just the LCD?

I plan on contacting FPD Design to see if it is worth a transflective upgrade. Maybe not? I am also following the 3M thread to determine if the film would be applicable to this unit. I thought about opening the panel to inspect existing films, but I currently don't have the time or skill to venture down that rabbit hole. My gut tells me it is better to leave it to the pros.

Thanks for all the disassembly photos. My only complaint with this unit it the usb monitor input that sticks out of the right side. I've tried using flexible usb connectors (they work well) but they still stick out too much. It looks as if there is enough room to wire in a female rca plug on the bottom of the case or even just a short section of a rca cable with a female plug on it instead of using this foolish usb plug. Do you have any suggestions on doing this (good idea - bad idea, etc)?

Thanks,

Paul Riccardi

I got my 10" to work touchscreen & all right away with my ibook last week. Although I did have to replace my hard drive last night and I have not tried it since then. I'm waiting for my mini to show up and I'll put the whole machine together on the table. I'll try to remember to post the drivers location if I find it.

Paul, if you plan on keeping it in the case, then you could reposition that I/O connector board and then drill/dremel access for the USB and power cables. Either below or in the rear. There are a lot of options.

Mine did that when first installed. It didn't install the config software automatically. Did the 4 pt calibration and it was fine. After a 9 pt it was even better. I know you said you did the calibration...maybe it wasn't applied, or like you said the screws are too tight.

The A/V cable...is it 2 inputs or is it 1 input and a TV antenna? Anyone figure it out? Reading the manual hurts my head

well as an update, my screens finally did ship. UPS has a tenative delivery date of 9/18/2007. Only 1 month and 1 day after the order was placed... 32 days isn't so bad, right?

Is anyone running this screen off a notebook? If so, what settings and where are you making to make this functional as a carputer interface? It you have some screen shots that would be perfect!!

I'm running the 8" one right now from my camper van using my old iBook Mac on 10.3 connected up with the vga cable. It works fine although I still don't have the touch screen working properly or all the cables hidden away yet.

I don't have my camera with me but I'll post a photo as soon as I can.
