"Broken" Monitor

I recently bought a new 5 inch TFT-LCD screen. It has bare wire connections for 12vDC and Ground, and a Yellow RCA Input wire. When I hook it up in the car, it doesn't work. It has a built in "Signal Detector" which powers the screen ON when there is a video signal. When I power the computer up, nothing happens. However, when I plug the screen into the RCA output on my VCR, the screen instantly comes on, and plays the movie fine. I believe the problem lies in the video card's adapter cable. My video card has VGA and S-Video out. It came with an adapter cable that has S-Video on one side, and RCA on the other. I think the screen might be looking for a PURE RCA signal, and isn't detecting the video signal through the adapter cable. The curious part about all of this, is that the same computer, video card, and adapter cable were being used in my bedroom just months before, when I used to play games and things on my TV. Is my theory correct, and I'll need to find a different video card, or is there any other possibilities to this situation?

Have you tried nstc and pal ?

My vid card can d0 800X600 or 640X480 on the tv output , try both if you can. The lcd may be more picky about what it will work with than your tv.

I had same problem.

All you need is some resistance in the cable. Theoretically it should be 50 Ohm, I used 82 (closest on in RadioShack) - It worked.

MP3DUB is on a distinguished road
As artemek said, the video card isn't detecting anything connected to the tv out connection on your card (cant sense any resistance in the screen, and not the screen not detecting a signal). If you bridge the two wires in the cable with a ~60ohm resistor, it should fire right up.

wow

Wow, you really think adding a resister is going to solve the
problem? I had a similar problem with another screen that I took back because I thought it was broke. The older screen was black and white when I ran it through the computer, but color when I ran it through the VCR. Would a resister solve this problem if it happens with the computer again? Or should I try something else?

I am not sure about color problems, but resistor sure solved my problem of no picture at all. It was neccesary for the video card to realize that there is something connected to the TV output.

The video card is a VisionTek GeForce2 MX400. It has VGA and S-VIDEO outputs. I have the latest drivers installed, and TV-Out turned on. I know it works, because I used to use the same computer and video card in my bedroom when I played halflife on my TV. I was told that the video signal is being lost when I use the adapter cable, because it is only grabbing the video and ground, and not the RGB channels. Someone suggested I just go to Radio Shack and buy an S-VIDEO -> RCA adapter (plug, not wire) and that would solve the problem. I went to my local store to buy one, but they only carry a female to female, and the video card is female. Any ideas? Thanks for all the help guys.
