If you purchase one of those and put a note in about it I will include a 7-8" sheet of DBEF-E 45 free - one of the samples they sent me that I didn't completely use.

Sam

Hey, I just sent payment for the one sheet. Any chance you can throw in the DBEF-E 45? My ebay username is the same as this.

Thanks. Looking forward to some daylight visibility improvement!

Can anyone confirm which DBEF is more suitable ?

Should we be using the DBEF 0 Degree rotated through 90 degrees?
Or the DBEF 45 Degree with no rotation ?

Cheers!

I think when I ordered the samples through the website, the only available option I got was the 0 degree. According to the literature, the 0 degree should be oriented in the same direction as the polarizer on the LCD.

This information is in the sample documentation, as well as on 3M's website, as well as in multiple places in this thread.

To sum it up:
Diffuser = Optional. Some people use it, others don't. I didn't, looks fine.
1st layer = BEFII 90/50
2nd Layer = BEFII 90/50 at a 90 degree orientation to the first layer
3rd Layer = DBEF-E 0 degree - orientated in the same direction as the polarizer on the LCD.

If you don't know what these films do, then why'd you get them and why would you risk your LCD for something you don't know? Yes, they improve the efficiency of the backlight system of the LCD and increase daylight readability at the same time.

That I most certainly agree with. I am a cheap bastard as well. ;-)

surely i know what they do, but i wasnt sure if i did order the right ones.
in my humble opinion there are some on the 3m site which do the same job, only different names.

sorry for asking.

forum is all about helping eachother out i thought.
even if if a question or an answer already isgiven, only takes a small reply to help.

grt from the netherlands,

gerard

gerard - didn't mean to sound harsh, it was just a simple question as the way you asked seemed almost like you blindly came into the thread and didn't fully understand what it was all about but were able to get ahold of some films. Just didn't want someone to risk their LCD (one small "oops" can turn into a long string of explicatives ) for something for which they didn't have much knowledge on.

I did list the correct order in which they should be applied though. You don't NEED 2 sheets of BEFII, you just get the most effect by using 2 sheets as long as they're crossed at 90 degrees of each other.

The BEFII and BEFIII are very similar. BEFIII is slightly less effective than the BEFII with the benefit of it being thinner.

If you really want to give the LCD a kick in the butt, remove the stock gloss-white sheet from the backlight and replace it with ESR. I believe you can also add a layer of TRAFII directly on the surface of the Backlight, followed by the diffuser, then the 2xBEFII, then the DBEF-E.

The TRAFII basically makes the light source more uniform. I didn't put this in my screen...but I sure thought about it...

adding the BEFII and DBEF-E by themselves will make a big difference. The ARMR200 you got looks like it will do wonders for glare reduction which is the main problem I have with my screen now.
Go too crazy though and you'll end up with an LCD that's so bright that it's washed out.

aren't there gonna be touchscreen panel issues when squeezing these extra sheets inbetween the stock housing?

(if touch panel is squeezed you might get input errors)

and is this as good as getting a panel optically bonded or is this the same process they do when they optically bond it?

There shouldn't be no because the touchpanel is on the outside of all this. The LCD components are layered as follows:

Circuit board (connects to the LCD panel)
Backlight assembly
films
frame holding films in place
LCD panel (note, the ribbon cable(s) that are attached to the circuit board on the back of the backlight assembly)
touchpanel

The touchpanel is basically taped to the LCD assembly to hold it in place. When you put the LCD back into the original housing, the difference will be minimal and if there is one you can always just not tighten the screws down as much

:EDIT: - not the same as optical bonding. with this method, there are still air gaps between the layers. I've not messed with optical bonding much but from my understanding an adhesive is used which matches the refraction index of both the LCD display and the overlays. This eliminates any air gaps between the layers.

I just got my sample kit in the mail yesterday. I cant wait to try it out but i fear that since i dont even have a carpc installed it may be a while until i am able to install and post pictures. When i do though i want to do before and after shots. One thing that i want to say though is that i think the most difference is going to be taking the glare from out of the touchscreen.

I saw on CDW you could purchase a pack of 5 of the anti glare coating for ~30 dollars. I may purchase that to give it a go

Hey guys. Great posts & topics.
Was doing a little preliminary research on the "ARMR-200 Screen Protector" that's been talked about here from CDW.
I may have found a less expensive location/s for the same thing, assuming for our standard 7" displays, the 8.9" 5-pack (part number 98-0440-4315-0) will do just fine?

PC Universe: $19.41 + $8.96 shipping (my location) - http://www.pcuniverse.com/product.asp?pid=3885827&m_id=
Super Warehouse: $20.99 + $4.99 shipping (flat) - http://www.superwarehouse.com/3M_Vik...15-0/p/1500397
Amazon.com: $26.78 + Free shipping - http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listi...122368&sr=1-23

For whatever reason you're not wanting to purchase the 5-pack and/or wanting to save even more bones (you penny pinchers you), there's a store on ebay selling them individually for $14 with free next day '1st calss shipping' : Store can be found here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Anti-Glare-Scree...QQcmdZViewItem, Example 7" size here
