I'm curious as well, however I think I'm going to just go ahead and order some.
In the meantime, I've been messing with the films from 3M on my screens and have found something interesting in which I'm going to investigate further. Probably call 3M as well. I noticed on the one LCD screen I did that it appears that the first layer of the BEFII has statically bonded to the backlight plate in a couple areas. And what has resulted is actually somewhat astounding in my opinion. The brightness in those areas increased dramatically to say the least...so much so in fact that it's completely readable even in the harshest sun (which happens to be in the mornings and mid-afternoons here). If I had something to compare it to...I'd say it's readable on the level of my BlackBerry 8703e screen, which does VERY good in sun.
I'll try to post some decent pics in the next day or so to show what I'm talking about. What I'll be calling 3M about is what they would recommend to use for an optical bonding adhesive for these films. A silicone based adhesive (easy to work with, somewhat flexible), Epoxy based, PolyUrethane, 2-part mixes, UV curing, etc. Obviously it would have to be very resistant to yellowing when exposed to sunlight which rules out the PolyUrethane based adhesives.
On a side note... one of my screens has met an untimely death partly due to these experiments. I left it opened up, and my son thought he would help out and sprayed windex on the backside of the actual LCD panel and wiped it off with a rag. Not sure if it was the windex that did it...or what, but the LCD screen no longer works...just shows white But on a happier note...I can use it's backlight and films to experiment with the optical bonding...and if that doesn't pan out...I can take the CCFL from that backlight and put it on the screen that still works

That's great to hear.
The screen show white mean either dead controller or loose connection to the panel. Hopefully the 2nd.

well, it's not a lose connection as I tried the cable from my working LCD and no joy.
As for controller board, do you mean the one that's connected directly to the LCD panel itself (permanently attached to that huge ribbon cable on the smaller board), or the one that the inverter and flat white cable plugs into?
any idea how much a replacement would be?

Try DigitalWW...they'll likely be able to quote you a price.

Thanks I'll give them a shout.
If I could ever get off of conference calls for a few minutes I could call Sharlene at 3M and get some info on the optical bonding.

Perhaps if you read the thread you would find out. It is mentioned at least a quadrillion times.

My bad, You're right. Should have expected that response, I'll search through it. Didn't notice the huge length of it at first.

I ordered mine a few weeks ago and never got any films or response. I don't really have time to do this upgrade myself, but I am willing to pay anyone on this board a fair amount of $$ to do it for me if they have the extra film and time and I'll cover shipping both ways. PM me and we can negotiate a deal.

I have sent in my 2nd sample request. I waited about 3 weeks after the first request, no emails, no films.
If 3M is "onto us", I can't blame them. They can't stay in business by giving away stuff for free.
But...
The frustrating thing is I am not opposed to purchasing the films, but have yet to find a source that sells in small quantities. Has anyone else tried with any luck? I found ONE ebay auction where a guy in China is selling a bulk quantity of bef-ii 50/90 for $750. Too much to swallow, and even then it doesn't come with the dbef or esr.

3M just confirmed that they have my samples being shipped to me right now =). They are BEF II 90/50 and DBEF E films (as used by the original poster). Going to try this upgrade on my k301 motorized screen. I know how to take the screen apart, but the LCD screen is fitted in pretty securely, so I dont know if I will be able to access the LCD itself. Hope this will work out well.

BTW...update on my samples request. After receiving the email with the questions, and after my reply. I was told no can do, and referred to www.digikey.com. One sheet of ESR = $90, they do have BEF II & III for around $26, but no DBEF.

Thank you for that info. Digikey was mentioned earlier in this thread, but last time I checked the link it took you to Digikeys site and they had no product listings.
I just searched again, and it looks like the ESR isn't as bad as you thought-not sure if they adjusted the price since you saw it, but right now it is $34.
Looks like you can get *almost* the whole upgrade for around 1 bill, including the ARMR200. But your right, I don't see the DBEF...
Now the question becomes: Is there another source for the DBEF OR how critical is the DBEF to this upgrade?
