I'm also curious as to how clean the area/room has to be for this. I thought you needed a clean room~
LCDs are NOT that sensitive to dust and are not hermetically sealed like a hard drive.
The "danger" is allowing dust, dirt, or finger oil to get on the backside of the LCD glass (between the front of the backlight and the back of the LCD panel). It's not harmful to the LCD panel itself, but it does show up when the screen is turned on. A decently dust-free room, clean hands or cotton gloves and a clean worksurface would likely prevent most problems.

Man...thanks for the vote of confidence, but I'd wait for at least a couple of other long-standing forum members to share their experience before taking one person's advice. It's not that I'm not confident in my opinion, it's just that I don't want you to think I gave you bad advice if you end up killing your LCD.
I should add that there ARE lots of delicate components inside an LCD casing. The glass LCD panel, is well, glass, but not likely to break unless you twist or drop it. The LCD panel is frequently attached to a controller board via very thin, flat, flexible cable, to SMALL board-mounted sockets that break easily. I've torn one of those connecting cables before, and it's not something that's easily repairable.
So, if you try...search the forum for pics of a dissected LCD (preferably of the same brand as your own), and proceed slowly and cautiously. As I found out while attempting to upgrade the backlight on my original screen: a dim screen is better than no screen at all.
Good luck!

Really great results i see it worth doing this then getting the touchscreen coated becuase you can see the glare. but other then that its sunlight readable... screw paying 400 bucks ...

parksgm is right - it's very delicate. You've been warned : ) If you don't mind risking your LCD then go for it, otherwise let someone experienced do it for you. The reason the transflective upgrades are so much is the film itself, if purchased, is like 40-80$ each screen. The rest is labor, and probably rightfully charged because its not quick and easy. (It kind of is if you are good at it)

Thanks for the info, would be really useful if you could put a little guidance up with your pics (eg, which film goes on first etc..) as i'll be doing my Xenarc ones my films have arrived

So this screen is directly viewable in sunlight with this stuff? For free? Nice!
What about contrast? On the transflective screens I thought the contrast gets turned way up and images look screwy sometimes?
And the film is applied to the back of the actual LCD glass panel correct? So you have to remove the backlight of course but then between the backlight and the glass back?
I've never really opened up the backlight/lcd part of the screen before, so Im not really sure what to expect.
Also I believe there is a better anti-glare touchscreen overlay pressed onto the screen in the mp3car translfective upgrade. So that probably adds some cost there too.
EDIT: How about the viewing angle as well?

3m film came today, waiting to see the results on the 700TSV with the guide. That will force me to order an LCD (either non-transflective or transflective, depending on if I think I will screw up a $300LCD)

They also have anti-glare films too. Maybe if one would get one of those for the front of the LCD it would pretty much be the transflective if 2k1toaster is right.

The upgrades actually replace the touchscreen from what I believe. So there will always be some sort of quality difference.

Can we get a definitive answer on exactly what to order, what pitch/angle etc? I would love to try this out and see how it works.

this vikuiti film has been out for awhile now. I tried to order some samples a couple of months ago. But was denied. It good to hear that someone got their hands on some and actually got them installed. I will definitely try to order the films again.
