hmmm...yeah, I didn't look at the picture that close but it's in the right spot for that. I suppose that if the noise issue is gone, and it still works, I'd loosen that screw and use a small rubber washer for a spacer so that it doesn't happen again.

I would get the following;

BEF II 90/50 and DBEF E are the minimum.

Optional yet recommended,

ARMP-200 (permanent) and ARMR-200 (removable) are anti-glare coatings that would go on the touchscreen (one of two, depending on preference).

ESR would replace the white sheet behind the back light to reflect more light through (this is what I have inferred from here, someone correct if I'm wrong) .

If I we're to do it again I would put all 4 types for maximum results.

I just got:
ESR-To enhance backlight transmission
DBF III 90/50-Polorizer to concentrate the image
DBEF 400D-Diffuser
ARMP-Anti Reflective Film/scratch resistant film

Going to install all 4 soon.

Well, not sure what to do now....Those that have successfully done this mod, or anyone with advice, I'm all ears...

Santa Claus is going to be bringing me my monitor...I am working on my carPC slowly, one thing at a time.

Anyway, I have sent multiple requests to 3M for samples to no avail, so no samples for me.

Digikey has all the films listed that are recommended in this thread EXCEPT the DBEF-E.

Sooooo the way I see it, I have these options:

1) Beg someone who has any DBEF-E left to ship me a sheet (please?!?!) I'll paypal if its a reasonable cost!
2) Use one of the origional films from the monitor in place of the DBEF-E. If so, which film from a lilliput do I use?
3) Substitute another film (DBEF-P2 is available on ebay for like $3 a sheet)
4) Use nothing in place of the DBEF-E

What options is best assuming #1 is out?

Thanks,

-Alan

The best results are obtained with BEFII, DBEF, and ESR. I would say go and buy it on eBay because its so cheap. Might as well install it now all in one go rather than deciding to install it later on and having to take apart your monitor all over again. I cant tell you quantitatively what will happen if you leave out the DBEF (vs having it installed), but hey, 3M says it increases brightness by 60%, so why not. Alot of people also complain about brightness issues with Lilliput, so every bit of brightness counts.

Thank you for the quick reply! Not sure if you caught it or not, but the film on ebay is the DBEF-P2; I can't find the DBEF-E that is recommended in this thread; Another poster a few pages back says that he believed the P2 film was designed to be bonded with the screen, unlike the E...Therein lies my delimna; I don't know if the P2 will hurt more than it will help or not.

Well its probably going to be better than none. If I was certain I that I could not find a normal DBEF sheet and had to go with the bonded version, I think I would do it. Every bit of brightness counts. But I dont know how comfortable you feel with that, so it really is up to you. When the sheet comes, it should have two plastic films on both sides, so just cut it up precisely, remove the protective films, then stick it on. In my upgrade, I took out the existing sheets, then traced out the shape of the stock film onto the new films and cut it up that way. It should be pretty straight forward and simple when you are doing the actual cut.

However, the difficult part is determining the orientation of the film. This is VERY important and you must plan everything out before cutting the film. You MUST know how you are going to layer the films, which face of the film faces the backlight, and at what angle to rotate the film with respect to how you are going to be viewing the screen.

I found that I could tell the orientation of the original films by looking at them in the light.

CAUTION: These things attract dust VERY easily. handle with care..

I folded so 8 1/2 by 11 sheets and put the originals in, just in case i screwed up..

I received my DBEF-P2 from EBAY....yes, it's the adhesive version. I peeled a corner back just to check it out....don't worry, it's not superglue or anything....lol. I haven't installed yet, I still need to get the other stuff from digikey. I'm also going to work on my button lights when I open her up, still collecting info on how to get that to work out....want them to stay on all the time.

Yesterday we did Phatsacks's lilliput with ESR, BEFII, and DBEFII 0-degree. Here are the before shots, Phatsacks will be posting the after's shortly. I'm very anxious to see them myself.

I talked to 3M the other day about this. Here is what they said.

We may have a product that will meet your needs: Removable Anti-Reflection Film (ARMR-200). This product offers:
* ultra-thin, multi-layer film that protects delicate LCD screens from damage
* reduces screen surface reflections to minimize glare and increase clarity
* does not bunch up or leave air gaps that can result in image distortion
* smudges and fingerprints wipe off easily
* ideal for screens requiring a stylus as the input device
* easily removable
* can be easily trimmed
* recommend replacement every 3 - 6 months

As soon as I finish molding my screen in, I'm going to get some.

Got my Lilliput in the mail the other day, and went over to Homebrews yesterday for the 3m upgrade.

He will have to post the before shots. We didn't take any after while I was there because the Sun had gone down.

It's 10:40 here when I took them, and it's East Coast US. Clear day outside.

The first picture is a 45 degree angle. The laptop behind it, is more of a 80 degree (normal viewing). The monitor "shouldn't" be this bad once installed. I have tinted windows, and it's not a convertable. The degree orientation in the car will also be 80+ degrees, as it's a Corolla and will sit very high in the dash (basically as high as possible while being integrated).

BELOW:

The first picture I mentioned - It's 45 degree angle and probably will be installed similar to this tilt (maybe slightly less). With windows down, bright day, and screen facing towards the screen...this is probably what it would look like. I'll also post once it's installed though.

BELOW:

This is simply laying flat as you can see, so you can compare it to the flat pictures (first two) in Homebrew's post.

BELOW:

This is angled towards the sun itself. I actually had to aim it away some because the sun hurt my eyes. This angle is near impossible, since I'm not in convertible. Maybe during sunset? The light is weaker then, but anyways. Here you go for this one too. Note this picture is not representative of what sunlight will shine on it as, but wanted to show the absolute worst possible, regardless of install.

The complete aftermath:
4 - 5 hours of Homebrew's vacation time
7 - 8 hours of my time with driving/traffic
Injured bird now nursed by my Aunt
Waste from films
Small crack in my windshield from a rock on the way there

Overall: 50-60% viewable in the Sun. Worth it!

Big thanks to Homebrew!

The complete aftermath:
4 - 5 hours of Homebrew's vacation time
7 - 8 hours of my time with driving/traffic
Injured bird now nursed by my Aunt (serious)
Waste from films
Small crack in my windshield from a rock on the way there

Overall: The flat and 45 degree angles look like a 50-60% increase in the Sun. Distinct brightness increase. Worth it!

Big thanks to Homebrew!
