High bright LEDs show they still use BEF and DBEF:
http://www.lumileds.com/pdfs/TP39_US_FPD_2004.PDF <- see 'cross section' graphic a few pages in.
I also ran across a Phillips ( I think ) 1000nit screen that compared to normal technology, and it also listed standard BEF and DBEF-D400 applications. I can't find that URL again, sorry.
From http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeCon...ec=E&kinds=IN1
"The company’s medium-size displays will include 7- and 8-inch displays for automotive use, including 1,000 nit high brightness displays and Dual Screen with One Panel (DSOP) displays that allow drivers to see one image and passengers to see another one on a single screen. Another featured product category will be panels for portable navigation systems ranging in size from 3.5 to 7 inches. These panels are driven by a single chip solution that allows end user products with narrower bezels to be created."

okay ... so I'm in the middle of videoing the upgrade procedure and find something odd. I'm using a new Xenarc 700TSV to show the process. After removing the LCD panel I find 3-4 films already installed. The top one looks like a diffuser or something simple, however the 2 underneath look like Vikuiti films already - both are similiar but I can see one at 0 degrees and another at 90 degrees. I wonder if this Xenarc already has the same film installed. I have emailed Xenarc to see if I can get an answer on which films they integrated already.

I think they are wising up to the fact that lots of enthusiasts are requesting samples. After all, the purpose of sending samples is to assist sales. I doubt any of us are going to buy 1000's of these things.

changeip -
would adding the Vikuiti films before the installed Xenarc, be detrimental in some form, in addition to the installed ones?

I layered a BEF II 90/50 and DBEF E film behind the LCD panel and it totally helped. Didn't seem to make much of a difference with brightness, however it's much better in the sun, actually still visible in direct sunlight. I swear the aliens made this stuff, there's no way this is made here on earth. : )

Those 2 films, based on free samples, and 2 hours time I now have an great screen in my truck now.
My question is this ... when someone purchases a 'transflective' upgrade, what films are typically used? This same 3M product or something else ?
PS - gloves and patience definately required.
Sam
Look like a nice result.
Got a question for you regarding to the installation of the films.
Can you specify what layer should be on top of the other?
TS - LCD Panel - BEF - DBEF - Defuser layer - backlight .... Is that the order?
BTW, For those who had order them. I did request sample from them before but they didn't give it to me. Instead, they send me the product cost and dealer where to buy them. It's probably because I used a wrong link to contact them (Inquiry instead of product sample).
However, I recently requests sample from them again. Without any info, the package just show up in my mail box within a week. The stupid postman fold it up and stuck in the mail box. I also ordered some DBEF film from fleebay.
I think the main reason they email to ask for more info is because you guys probably writing an essay in the "short description of your application". For me, I just put "enhance brightness of existing mobile multimedia display". Short and get to the point. Also the volume of "sample order" has significantly increase over the past week trigger their decision.
Now I need to find time to put the thing in.

Hey I have:
BEF III 90/50-T
DBEF II 45 Degrees
ESR
Does anyone know how to orient these films for our use? I notice that rotating the polarized films drastically changes the visibility of the screen. Damn I cant wait for that procedure video!

I am not an expert by any means, but from what I read it should be backlight, optional diffuser, BEF II, BEF II, then DBEF, then LCD panel. The 2 BEFII or III layers should be alternated (0 and 90 degrees). The top layer, I believe, determines the most viewing angle.
I would hate (love) to know that Xenarc has placed these films in from the factory and that they are already upgraded... sure seems like there is BEF in there. The response from Xenarc was ' the lcd manufacturer won't say '.

With that sorta of response from Xenarc, will you be doing the upgrade (with guide) to see if it does make a difference?

Well my samples came today. No calls no emails, just showed up today. Needless to say I'm excited to experiment this weekend. Now I'm gonna see if I can get a friend to order some of the other samples for me to try. I'm particularly interested in the anti-glare, so we'll see if I can get my hands on some. I would just request some more samples myself, but I doubt they'd just keep letting me order samples.
