I would recommend this monitor to anyone thinking of installing a carpc...
Its just not worth bothering with the cheaper lilliputs etc..

Did you find a brand in your strip?

Its mounted like this using the mount that came with the monitor. That glue will stick forever even in intense heat. I had some similar double sided tape on my previous vehicle for ~ 8 years and it never budged. The thing on the windscreen is not attached- its for a Pocket PC.
Thought it would look ugly but couldn't find any room on the dash to integrate it-Landcruisers may be big on the outside but they use all tyhe room on the dash.
Anyway it doesn't look as bad as I thought and its really easy to view without looking too far down. And as for angled sun, I've never had a problem with the sun at all
The ball is ~ 1.5 cm but I think it would be easy to use a RAM mount by just using the slot in the back of the monitor. See the web page at beginning of thread for how the slot looks- ther is a RAM connector for that.

i'll be posting comparison pics between a 2007//2008 700TSV and the Linitx TMR sometime late next week when I get my car back from the shop. I'll try and take as many pics as I can side by side in the sun and not in the sun. Stay tuned.

Yes please, and your comments!
It's so difficult to get any direct comparisons of these top screens, particularly with regards to sunlight.
It is a Xenarc 2007 700TSV or the upgraded 2008 model?
Regards,
DEM_968.

Likely because not very many people have more than one screen on hand. Even if they do, ideal comparison pics would show the two different monitors in the same installation, with the same lighting and glare conditions...and that's difficult and time consuming to replicate, even with two monitors.
That said, there should be a sticky where people are encouraged to post shots of their installation as a basic reference. Perhaps the first post could include a standard, downloadable .jpg to display, and a set of instructions on standardizing lighting conditions as much as possible (have guidelines for time of day, position of the sun, brightness settings on the monitor, angle of the camera with regard to the screen, etc.) that users would follow before posting. That might be a worthwhile thread...or it might not, but I don't think we'd know until several people posted with their results.
Maybe I'll just start such a thread myself...

the man.fac. date is on the screen
i have 2008 year model and the date shows the end of august last year.
on the box, there's 700TSV-B written. maybe 2007 model is 700tsv-a?
i can post my installation pics when i've got my sound system installed and everything put together. otherwise it would look ugly :P
might take 2 months..

Well I couldn't get good comparison pics because I could only power one at once, but the TMR is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than the Xenarc. I went for a drive today in full sunlight, windows down, and EVERYTHING was legible and bright, even on a night skin. The pictures make it look like the screen is more reflective than it really is, but I did what I could.
So here are some of the old Xenarc driving down the highway, no direct sunlight, just a bright day, windows up.
Here are pics of the linitx in bright sunlight, windows down. As you can see, the sun is hitting it directly. Frankly, theres no comparison. The last picture, although a bit blurry, especially highlights the visibility of a night skin during day time. Again that's in direct sun.

Did you have any problems getting a true 800x480 out of it?

i only run at 800x600 since my card doesnt support it. i dont know what the big deal on this forum is about 800x840 is unless you are examining fonts dot for dot, which i would doubt in a car environment.

Because 800 x 480 on a monitor whose native resolution is 800x480 actually does look a lot better than any other resolution that was rescaled to 800x480.
