Well, I broke down and got the cartft monitor, and I am very impressed with both the customer service, and the monitor itself.
Ordered it on Monday (keep in mind CarTFT.com is in Germany), it shipped Tuesday, I recieved it Thursday, and installed it Friday morning.
Today was a cloudy day, so I can't tell how it was with sunlight on it, but I shined a flashlight on it and it was still readable. The brightness is much, much better than the Xenarc TSV700 I came from (both the standard 700TSV, and the one I had modified by MotorCity to be transflective).
I didn't have much time to play with it after the instal before I went to work, so I couldn't see if I could get 800x480 (native resolution) out of it, but at 800x600 it was sharp. Those of you who have played with 700TSV's know that 800x600 on a 800x480 monitor know that it looks kind of fuzzy; this wasn't, this was nice and sharp even though the resoultion was 800x600 and the native resolution is 800x480. No black bars or anything like that. If I can get it to display actual 800x480, it might be even better.
As for the screen itself, I was able to get it to fit in my G35 mount that I had earlier bought from mp3car.com. Not taking it apart, but with some widening of the G35 mount I fit the actual case of the cartft screen in it. A little beautification needs to take place, but I'm happy with it.
The only thing that was a PITA (and this wasn't the fault of cartft) was that the all-in-one cord from the screen was a male plug, whereas the previous all in one cable I had run that was with my Xenarc had a male end on the monitor side, so I did have to run new cabling, which added about an hour to my install.
The customer service was good, as I had mentioned, but an email when my order shipped would have been nice, considering the CarTFT website is somewhat non-standard, and difficult to navigate. Oh well.
One final thing to consider is that given the weakness of the US dollar right now, the price was pretty high since you had to convert to Euros, but thats not cartft's fault.
All in all I am very happy with it!

I love my cartft screen. The only time it is less visible is in sunlight when it's caked with finger prints. I try to use the pen as much as possible now so I don't have to constantly clean it.

Well, sunny day today, and the screeen, even with direct sunlight on it, was still just as legible and clear as my Xenarc 700TSV was during a very cloudy day.
Very impressed with this screen, I wish I had gone with this in the first place than wasting money on multiple different other solutions.
Oh, on the cartft website, they have drivers for embedded Intel graphics chipsets that promise to give 800x480. I have a discreet video card, so I haven't tried those, but it does mean that 800x480 should be really easy. Just give me some time to play with it, and I should be able to get 800x480 no problem.

I'm rather confused here. Isn't this thread about the linITX screen but now Caelric and some others are talking about cartft screens? Are these screens one in the same thing? Which is which?

They're not the same- car tft is full transreflective, linitx is a TMR screen. I think they're just comparing the two.

As I understand it, the cartft is a re-branded and modified LinITX screen. However, I could be wrong about that.
Regardless, I got the cartft screen, and I am very happy with it.

Any info on the cartft touchscreen specs? Is it 4-wire, 5-wire? It's annoying finding lcd's with the latest technology only to be fustrated with old touchscreen hardware.

What's wrong with 4 wire? I don't recall any of these screens having 5 wire.

Seriously, are you going to be signing your name on the screen? 4 wire is more than enough for car pc duty.

It's pricey, but I ordered the cartft CTF400-SH yesterday. Thanks for all the pics and info, useful as sunlight readable is key (I have a convertible). Will post feedback once installed.
Cheers.

Xenarc has started to use 5-wire. Much more accurate, less pressure needs to be applied, you can use the fleshy part of finger. Even better is capacitive. Doesn't wear out like the resistive touch screens, almost no light blockage since it's clear glass and withstands harsh environments well. Most kiosks and the iphone use a capacitive touch panel. Even if you don't care much for the improved touch quality, many people agree the big downfall for the resistive touch panel is that they block too much light and this doesn't help sunlight readability.
There are plenty other comments on the forum about touch technology and peoples reaction to xenarc's 5-wire displays. Although better then 4-wire, resistive touch tech has been around for along time now. Capacitive is not much more expensive, so why not move on. Having such state of the art technology like transflective displays paired with such archaic technology such as 4-wire resistive makes no sense to me.
Anyways, no debate, just trying to put together the best product out there for the carputer user.
