In-Dash display choices? Who has one of these?

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out some information on the Xenarc 700IDT vs. The Lilliput GL701. I'm not sure which I want to go with and I can't find information on either that answers all of my questions.

Who here has one of either and can answer the following:

How does it do in daylight? (That evil day star is a *ITCH ain't it?)

Can you adjust the angle the screen sits at when open?

Is in-dash really the way to roll? (Granted, yes I have a nice big land-yacht of a car, but I also don't want to advertise by having a nice big 10" touchscreen mounted in my car. I would very much like my screen to still be there in the morning thanks)

Overall, how is the picture?

How hard was it to install, hook-up and make work?

What DON'T you like about your screen?

Would be a good idea or even necessary to put the screen on a capacitor for cranking/starting?

According to Xenarc's web info guide, the 700IDT doesn't have RCA inputs for audio, so I'm presuming I'll either still need a head unit (No problem, I has me a double DIN) or I'll have to wire up the pc directly to the factory stuff *cringe*

If anyone with either lives near me and wouldn't mind, I'd REALLY like to check one or both out in-person before I drop $500 on a screen that sucks.

I've already got a lot of the pieces coming together, but I just can't find enough info on screens to make an educated decision...

Here's what I'm also looking at if anyone feels so inclined to stop me or provide input:

Opus 250w power supply

Streetdeck North America w/ SDK

Some kind of OBD interface (my car is apparently OBD-I not OBD_II...) but this is later on

Probably some kind of linear array microphone, and a bluetooth wireless headset for the PC (I have a SICK one my boss bought me for my work phone which is VOIP now, need the p/n for it and I'll post it somewhere. I'll outline more on that one elsewhere when I'm at that point)

Since I have trunk space, I may add a 2nd battery to the trunk for more power availability, but I am really trying to avoid running heavy gauge wire through the car. That could for all intensive purposes be a real mother (even though I have more space overall than say the owner of a Honda Civic, nothing personal here gentlemen, doesn't mean it won't suck)

I have the stock speakers and such, which may or may not stay depending on how the carPC sounds. The car's got a good sounding (and loud enough for my liking) stereo now.

Alternator and battery upgrades will be done as needed.

input is made in the formof threads & posts on this forum.
Instead of anxiously watching this thread, I'd think you could make better use of your time and searching for 700IDT and/or GL701 to see what you get.

My opinion: NEITHER. They all look ugly as sin.

Wow, for once I agree with DP.
I have a 700IDT (sitting on my desk now) I didn't like the way it sticks out of the dash 1 inch or more even when closed. It does swivel slightly, left to right only.
Daylight? Xenarc's are a little better than most others. Regardless, you'll see nothing when that "star" shines directly on it.
I recommend Xenarc because their quality is best (IMHO).
I also recommend a custom build monitor housing and use a regular monitor.
But if I had to pick...it'd be the 700IDT.

Like DP said, it's better to browse the threads and get opinions that way. Ultimately you need to decide...not us.

EDIT: that 700IDT is for sale
