800x480 would look best on any 7" screen.
Which one? That's really up to you.

you haven't been very clear in your request... you are spec'ing out a prebuilt AOpen pc and you want to know what screen to use?? you say you only have room for a 7"... are you asking for a screen recommendation??
You should always attempt to use the native resolution of a screen. So if the screen is a 480x800, then you need to run that for text readability, etc. Running anything higher or lower just adds a blur to the image. Your video card might not support that specific resolution, so you might be forced to run 600x800.
There are only two "reputable" manufacturers of 7" widescreens... Lilli (cheaper) and Xenarc (better)... both accept VGA. There are no name brands on eBay, but warranty and quality will always be a risk.

why would you try to cram the video through USB?? you have a built in video card... probably best to start there...
I went down the 800x480 route and it is impossible to use WinXP with a 480 screen height. For instance, the Display Properties window is about 550 or 575 pixels tall, so you cannot move the window up high enough to hit the OK button. I run 800x600 and I am happy. Start simple.

from what i have seen on trying to get some low res's on the mp915 stock board, its damn near impossible. i think it was some fluke of nature that someone got it to work.
