liliput input volyage problem

I ahve a 8" liliput touch screen monitir, i rigged it up in the car a few weeks ago using the ciggy connector and it worked fine. I have a power adaptor in my workshop that outputs the same volts and required current so i can test it satisfactorily on the bench. I have come to install the screen and all i did was cut off the ciggy connector and connect it to a 12v Acc feed and a good ground. No joy, i can not get the monitor working in the car at all.

i have checked the volts at the acc output and it is 12v engine off and peaks at 14 v when engine on. I checked the output at the connector and it is only showing 8v max. in the lead there is an eliptical box which i assume is a regulator. could this have broken in any way?

I cant understand why its only ouputting 8v

It could be broken. Try to bypass it if you have a bench power supply, you can at least eliminate where the problem is.

As i said if i use a 240v-12v psu it powers up fine. do i need to use this regulator?

i'm using a DSX12VD power supply, can i tap off 12 v from the molex connector for the screen wihout affecting the PC?

actually, running the screen off the 12v line from the PSU that's powering the PC is probably your best option. The 'egg' or regulator is a pain in the ***. I got mine to work with it, but got a LOT of noise. What I ended up doing is running a 12v and ground from my Opus up to the front and powering my screen from that. I did still get some noise/flickering on the screen until I provided a ground point closer to the screen rather than running the ground all the way back to the pc.

Had a email from support at mpegbox re this and they said it would be fine to power the screen from the psu, in fact there is a 12v spade output all ready .
