HELP! - Lilliput Problem, Black Screen, No Picture
I'm trying to build my first carpc. I got my mp3car.com order in the other day with my M2-ATX, Slot-load dvd-rw case for it, and my Lilliput 889GL. Today I started testing the stuff. The DVD-rw works nicely, I haven't had a chance to test the PSU yet and the Lilliput was working great, but now it's not. I'm going to try to be as detailed as I can, maybe It's dead, hopefully not, but here's what happened.
I set up the Lilliput on the 2nd VGA plug on my desktop (nVidia 7600gs) and tried a couple of settings, all of which worked. The setting I left it on was dual-display (not clone) with the 2nd display, the lilliput, on 800x600x32 @ 60hz Working fine. So I tested some movies, setup and tested the touchscreen, took some picts to send my friends, then started to do some other tasks on my computer and, as I often do with dual displays, setup vlc playing a video on the 2nd display while I did my other tasks on the 19" disp and watched Star Trek out of the corner of my eye on the Lilliput. So far so good. Then all of a sudden about halfway through my episode the lilliput flickered bright for a millisecond. I didn't think much of it because I thought maybe it was caused by how much stuff I had the computer doing, maybe it was software. A few seconds later it does it again. I stop what I'm doing on disp1 to watch the Lilliput, leaving the episode running. Then it decides to flicker again and go almost white, with a bit of a pinkish hew. Ok? Then I notice the led in the bottom right corner is orange (not red or green or whatever it was before) so I unplug it, then plug it back in...... nothing. Power button? Nothing never made the standard noise when you plug in a usb device either. Oh crap. "Ok don't panic..." So after searching through the forums here I tried different resolutions, refresh rates, etc to no avail. I also tried taking it out to the car to try the 12v car adapter that came with it and had the same problem. Also tried using the RCA inputs and same problem. Basically, whatever I do here's how it responds:
Plug in VGA first, then power:
Usb Dev attached noise on pc, red led on monitor blinks aprox 3times/sec. No pict, no backlight, just black, screen off. However, I do get communication from the touchscreen. I can move the mouse, etc. Unplugging the VGA or changing display resolutions or refresh rates has no effect. Power or any other button does not seem to do anything, blue lights under power button never come on.
Plug in Power first, no VGA:
USB dev. attached noise on pc, red led glows solid, screen flashes white for about a millisecond, then goes to the same 'no backlight black' and then makes USB dev disconnected noise. Still only red led, solid. Plugging and Unplugging the VGA has no effect. Now if I try to press the power button (even the one on the remote), the blue leds light up the buttons, just like they should if the monitor was on, but... no change in picture. and still no communication with the touchscreen, and still no response from VGA plug/unplug/resolution/refresh rate changes or RCA input. But if I press power again to turn it off, No response. The blue leds behind the buttons say lit and absolutely nothing changes. The menu, or any other button, produces no change in any way. The only way to turn it 'off' is to pull the power.
So any Ideas? Or is it just dead?

Ruturned it
Well, in light of no replys to my question I decided to return it. MP3car was great on the RMA process and my new one got here last week. So far so good, it's running on the carpc guts that are in my floor with no prob all week. The firmware/screen menu is a little better on this one so I wonder if Lilliput had some sort of problem there.
Anyway, if all goes well I'll be starting my install this weekend.

Minus the flashing white. I get no light what-so-ever. But audio works until the led turns orange.

I just got mine today (Lilliput 2008) and all I have is an orange power light. The screen flickers when I connect power, but thats it. No USB noise (Although my computer is apparently picking it up), no display, no touch... What a pain this is going to be. Definitely regretting the $20 2nd day air I got for this thing that doesn't work...

Like I said, I returned mine when it did this. I would recommend you do the same if you got it from mp3car. If you got it from eBay, you might be out of luck, I order as much as I can from mp3car or newegg because they both have excellent customer support and a very good RMA process. If you got it at mp3car mention that you paid extra for fast shipping, do it respectfully and they may be willing to work with you.

The Lilliput must be powered with filtered 12 volts for reliable performance. (ac brick or regulated DC-DC PSU. Some people also apply screen resolutions out of range. We have seen almost no failures with that model. Try a different computer, monitor and USB port.

^ what he said 100% ^
I only returned mine after testing on different computers, testing on the ac adapter that came with it then regulated 12v from the car, testing resolutions I knew it supported, etc. Only when it failed in all conditions did I call mp3car.

Also...
The one I got back has been working flawlessly since I got it. (except for when I accidentally hooked it to 5v not 12v, but that's another story, it's still ok though.)
The guy that handled my RMA said it was uncommon for those to come back.
As far as resolution goes, I've been running mine at 800x480 almost all the time, but it works fine with 800x600 too. It will display lots of other resolutions, but I prefer to keep it at it's native resolution.

I had it plugged in using the supplied PSU (AC to DC). So I can't imagine that the power supply is the problem, unless the supplied ac plug simply doesn't work. I will try the car lighter plug just the same. I will also try connecting it to my home laptop and see if that works. Then I will try THAT with the car lighter plug. I will also toy with the resolutions. I plugged a desktop monitor into the pc that I am using as my carputer and that worked fine. Hopefully one of these solutions work. Thanks for all your help guys! I really appreciate it!

OK, so I tried a different pc, using both the ac outlet and dc lighter plug power supplies with both pc's and I tried every resolution from 640x480 to 1280x800 on the two pc's. I plugged into a different USB each time I tested and on each pc. I'm not too sure what else there is to test, but I hope you guys can come up with something!
*Weird*
I put the Lilliput behind my entertainment center and plugged in 3 RCA (Red, White, Yellow) plugs. I then plugged the AC power cord into an outlet behind the entertainment center and the power light lit up red! With much excitement I walked over and pressed the power button. The rest of the buttons lit up blue for a split second, then the power light went back to a dim orange... Still no display and no response from Lilliput. I did this a couple times and got the same result. It would appear that I can only recreate this once ALL voltage has left the unit, in essense, hard resetting? ... Any ideas?
I know someone here has a solution... You guys fix EVERYTHING! Haha

That's close to what mine did.

I'm thinking the same thing. It's hard to tell without any audible arching or taking the monitor apart, which I can't do if I want to return it for a new one at some point, but it sounds like it may have a bad ground. When a button is pressed it appears that power terminates... Thats my personal opinion anyway... If anyone has any other ideas, feel free. I'm sittin on a $300 touch monitor I can't use!
