lilliput 619 molex connection

Hello all , I'm just wondering, I bought this lcd already installed in the wrx chassis and before I hooked it up to a pc I noticed that the molex connector had a black and red wire in it , when hooking it up to the pc i saw that the red was connecting with the yellow, so I switched the wires so that the reds matched up. The screen is working, but after reading through this forum I found out that the yellow wire is 12v and the red is 5 v. Does this make sense that the thing works? The problem that I am having is I cant get the factory code thing to come up so I can change it to auto on. Im sorry for such a silly post but I dont want to trash this thing. do you think this is my problem? And is it supposed to work on a 5 v wire ? should i switch it back to yellow?

Thanks in advance

Not sure I can answer, but I can be certain that the molex from the PC...red is 5V, yellow is 12V. But I guess you already knew that.

No I actually figured that out earlier today after reading through the threads. I just need some one to tell me I wont smoke thae moniter if I use the yellow wire. It has to be ok since its 12 v . I just cant figure why it works on the 5v wire. Is it just dimmer? It actually looks ok !

Don't know why it works on the 5v wire either (although apparently that's within the design specs of the screen), but it doesn't really matter. Just verify that the screen accepts 12V input, and then connect the screen to the 12V power supply wire and ground.

Wire colors don't mean anything...power input wires are typically red for +, and black for - for peripheral devices that only require one input. The computer has multiple + output voltages, +5v and +12v (as well as +3.3V to the motherboard), and so different color wires are used to differentiate the outputs.

Don't ever trust power wire colors...always verify everything with a multimeter before connecting!
