Lilliput IR Receiver - Tried Extending - Help Please
I have a Lilliput 809GL-80NP/C/T that I'm trying to extend the IR receiver. I got it desolder and soldered new wires to it.
When testing I got no response so I put my meter on the legs. The two outside legs were getting voltage (can't remember exact but I think one got 5v and the other got like 2.5v). The middle leg, which I think is supposed to be ground, wasn't beeping when probing on the ground setting.
Basically I just want to make sure both outside legs are supposed to be providing voltage and the center leg is ground. Here is what it looks like:

Can someone confirm this for me please?
I just metered the actual three joints where the legs go. They read 5V, 5V, and 2.5V. Isn't one of these legs supposed to be ground?
Thanks for any help.

Anyone!?!?? PAAALEEEASE!
This is the LAST thing I need to do before installing my setup in my truck. I need the IR because my buttons are not accessible.
Someone.. Anyone.. Please can you tell me what your 3 solder points of the IR receiver are supposed to read..
Thanks in advance!

I have min out and did the exact same thing, I'll try and get a reading this evening. What is your ground reference?

That would be awesome, thanks..
How do I find out what my ground reference is?

Yes, the center pin is ground. Here's a reference http://www.factorydirect.co.uk/facto...rdetector.html
If you're seeing 5V there, you may have shorted it with solder. It's pretty small stuff to work with.

Thanks for the reply..
When you say I may have shorted it w/ solder do you mean I'm screwed? I don't think I'm seeing 5V on the middle pin, I'm seeing 5V on both the outer pins.. I do think I was seeing 2.5V on the middle pin (which would still be *some* voltage, so still incorrect)..
I bought another IR receiver from Rat Shack hoping it was just that but I have yet to try it because I didn't know which way to install it.. But it sounds like I may have screwed the board up.. Is it irreversible?
Thanks again!

Well, touching source to ground is always bad. I can blow the supply, a trace or the ribbon cable. The good thing is you have 5V. That should be on one outer pin. Ground is center and you'll have to figure out if that's working. The other is a signal pin. You may be able to see a quick fluctuation in voltage while pressing remote buttons. It would go down. Disconnect power and test for continuity between the 5V pin and center. There shouldn't be any. If that's shorted, check your solder points. If not, check between the center pin and the power jack outer barrel. There should be. If not, something burned. That's my guess.

If something blew would the LED's still light up?

So the signal pin should rest at 5V and drop when a remote button is pressed? And which pin is the outer pin? It could be either one except the middle..

Lastly, how do I test for continuity? With NOTHING on the LCD I probe the ground pin and whichever is the "outer"? What setting on my meter?
Thanks much for the help!

The LEDs probably wouldn't light up if the ground blew. All the LEDs are grounded to the same trace as the IR center pin and it's very thick. In the picture, the top pin is 5V and the bottom is output.
Have you tried the power button to make sure it turns on and off? Maybe you just reversed the two wires on the IR? That shouldn't damage anything.

I can't remember what all I tried.. I'll hopefully be able to fiddle with it this weekend.
Thanks again for your help. I REALLY appreciate it!

Finally had a chance to look at this again last night.. The power button does NOT work.. The LED's do light up but I think the board might be toast.. The A/V button when I press it briefly changes the screen but then goes right back to VGA.. None of the other buttons appear to do anything.
Is there somewhere that sells replacements?
Thanks

www.digitialww.com sells parts. But if it's not on there, you'll have a hard time talking to Armen. Look closely at the ribbon cable. It may have a burn spot on one end. From what I remember, the power button makes contact with the same 5V that powers the IR. The rest of the buttons contact with ground, so you should follow that trace all the way to the main board. It could just be the ribbon.

I didn't even think to check anything on the ribbon! DOH!
Sigh, to take it out of the truck and take it apart again... Thanks for the help.. Will report back when I do it.
