From PC Video Card to Sharp LQ9D023 LCD

Hi everyone,

I have been reading alot on the forum but can't find indept information to recycle my old LCD screen (TFT) so I can plug it on an old motherboard and try nice little things with it.

Would anyone be good enough to help me do a How-to for all the people out here ? I'll just add all the steps to make it work on my blog.

1- I have the Screen
2- I have the inverter
3- I have the hirose connector that plugs in a male hirose (40 pin) connector on a Laptop board.

4- I want a normal video card to display on the LCD.
5- Need help !

Thanks.

If the 40 pin laptop connector is LVDS you will need a VGA to LVDS converter I think. I don't know what "hirose" is...

tracker64 is on a distinguished road
he means the ribbon cable from the lcd...
to put it simple
you need a adaptor thats for sure, the panel is just a "dummy", the controller for it does not exist as it's a part of the mainboard of the laptop. the "dummy" panel will not function without the lvds controller, you won't be able to just... *interface* it together.

This display (according to my memories) is an old, 4096 color model with a resolution of 640x480. It is not lvds but ttl rgb, that means, every color approx. has 4 bits.
Sharp also use clk, vsync, hsync.
There are vide cards, where the so called feature connector is present. That connector is able to drive this panel with 16 colors or so.
The lenght of the cable is maximal about 60cm.

summary: it is not impossible, but does not woth the effort or the cost. The controllers are expensive (I could recommend PCIx690 - I also own one).
