8" 16:9 in Double Din GM Dash????

OK I've searched for hours and no luck. Has anyone installed an 8" 16:9 in a GM double din dash opening without hacking the dash? After looking at some pics there looks like there's an inch or so left over with a 7".

in that pic, it only has extra space on the side. it looks like it has no extra space at all on the top or bottom.

the screen size is measured diagonally from corner to opposite corner. an 8" screen is wider AND taller than a 7" screen. it's probably a little under 1/4" more at the top/bottom.

you'll probably lose some screen visibility on the top/bottom, but you may be able to adjust the monitor settings to correct that (however if you do that, it would defeat the purpose of using a bigger screen in the first place )

it looks like a 7" screen would fit best, but i would remove the LCD/touchscreen from the monitor housing so that all you see is the screen (not the plastic housing around it), it would look much cleaner that way.

good luck

I have the 8" widescreen and a GM. Now for the bad news... No.
First of all, your truck has the same size player as my car, GM "Din-and-a-half" or 1.5DIN
Look at sombody's stock import radio and you notice it's a bit taller, that's a Double DIN.
The way I mounted mine was by bending and painting an aluminum bracket so that the monitor is mounted just over the dash. Kindof like a fold out model but centered. I'll post pictures when I get them.
When you're looking at models remember that "Widescreen" monitors are much closer to 16:10 (even the Lilliput 889GL that says it's 16:9)
You can get get exact measurements of both the entire unit or the LCD only by doing a quick search of this site.
If you want a close way to figgure it out multiply the size of the monitor (eg. 8") by .86 for the width and by .52 for the height. This will give you the rough viewable size of the screen. The case size you'll have to look up.
What this all boils down to is that an 8" widescreen will not fit. A 7" widescreen also taller than 1.5 DIN, but only by a little bit. You may be able to get it to work if you have a little bit of room above or below inside the dash, but you will have to take the LCD out of the case for sure.
Hope this helps.
