Removing an LCD screen from its housing

Since it appears that there are NO double-din in-dash VGA monitors, it looks like I am going to have to get custom. Is it a real PITA to remove the housing (without damage) in order to custom-fit a screen into an opening? The dash adapter I am using is the standard double-din size (7" x 4") and I just want to fit the screen in there.
