are there color 40x4 lcds anywhere?

can you buy 40x4 color LCDs like the 20x4 displays at crystal fontz? so far i can only find 40x4's in ungly green

I saw a 20x4 in blue there, but no 40x4... I don't think there's enough demand for colored LCD's at that size.

You could buy a cheap HD44780 compliant one with led backlight and take the leds out and put colored EL-foil behind it . the you could have blue red green white orange etc... - ( red is a bit dark)

The foil is called electroluminescence foil( hope i wrote it correectly ). you can get it via Farnell, or ?? -

I have LCDs withou backlight - those have a refelctive foil that i have to remove before being able to put el foil - but i 'm actually not very decidet to remove it because of possible dammage so actually i didn't bought el foil yet . But it 'll come

the blue and white - blue with inverted chars and white ( black chars on white background ) that will be coooool

So seek a bit on the elektronik suppliers websites or catalogues and you'll surely find el-foil!
