Question about new Xenarc 700idt
I am thinking to get this screen for my carpc. found out there are a new version of these screen. The appearance look abit difference then the previous version. One thing I don't understand about the spec on the newest one where it said. This screen do not support vesa resolution 800x480. What does this mean? I been looking all over to find good deal on this unit. anyone know where I can find good deal, please let me know, even a used one is okay too. Thanks

What is the native resolution of the LCD? If it is native 800X480 then that means that it will not signal its compatible resolutions to your OS. In that case you will have to construct a driver manually to display 800X480.
If its native res is 640X480 or something else, then that probably means it will not display 800X480 at all.

Thanks for reply. the spec did not mention native res. here the link http://store.pandainnovations.com/Xe...r_p/700idt.htm
One dump question, what is the resolution setting that most used?
Thanks

In the technical specs at the link you posted it says the physical resolution is 800X480. So it is possible I think. I am not sure why Panda is putting that message in big bold letters. I would suggest asking what they meant by that and seeing if you could build a custom driver. Windows will not do it by default definitely so if you are uncomfortable configuring the Intel driver yourself I would stay away from trying to do 800X480 with that screen.

I forgot to mention that the whole custom driver thing depends on your graphics adapter. Are you using onboard graphics and if so, which chipset is it? If not, what card?

Hi guys,
The note on the product page stems from past experiences where the 700IDT would not display a 800x480 signal. It wasn't a matter of setting the drivers to do 800x480, but the screen itself wouldn't display the image. And yes, the physical screen resolution is 800x480.

I'm curious as to why a screen would not display its own native resolution even with the system putting out correct DTD settings...
Anyone care to enlighten??

I think it's a firmware issue. The 700IDT's controller would have to adjust the image processor so it correctly displays the incoming signal. If they didn't specify settings for the 800x480 resolution, it won't be recognized.
I'm just speculating here - I don't know the answer for sure. I just know the 800x480 signal would not display on the new 700IDT, but did on other monitors.

So then I assume that they use a completely different controller than the older Xenarc (why backwards modify a firmware?)...does this imply a new LCD model also? If so, do you know the LCD model number or the controller model number?

I don't know how the controllers compare between the two versions. The LCD's are now high-brightness. I believe it's a new panel. Regarding the firmware, it could be that they just forgot to add that resolution. Again, I cannot explain why - only what I've observed.

Thanks for the info. New LCD almost certainly means new controller, hence a new firmware that lacks that particular rez...

Well its bad in the sense that it will not run at native rez, which is what would look best. I personally run at 800X480
