PICS!

The pictures don't really do it justice though. It's much more visible in person. Most of the glare you see here is not visible at all. Some of these pics were taken before I adjusted the brightness/contrast at all. After I cranked the brightness and contrast to 100 it looked much better. The screen at the top is a Motorcity transflective.
Pic 4 shows a direct sun reflection from behind the car. All pictures taken with the top down and all windows down on a bright sunny day about 2:00pm.
The night time contrast is amazing. The blacks are extremely black and the image is very sharp even though I am running at 800x600. I haven't had any luck getting 800x480 yet but I'll keep trying.

Interesting, pic #4 appears very readable, especially if that is direct sunlight in a convertable with the top down.............

Now I'm rethinking waiting for an mp3car transflective.................

Is that FreeICE you're running?

Yes pic 4 is the worst possible lighting condition you can imagine. Top down, sun directly behind reflecting on the screen. And the brightness was only set to 70 From what I have seen of the mp3car screen it might have a hard time with that one. The main difference is the cartft is a couple hundred nit brighter and the touch screen is not as reflective as the mp3car one. Although I haven't seen one in person to compare.

Well, I broke down and got the cartft monitor, and I am very impressed with both the customer service, and the monitor itself.

Ordered it on Monday (keep in mind CarTFT.com is in Germany), it shipped Tuesday, I recieved it Thursday, and installed it Friday morning.

Today was a cloudy day, so I can't tell how it was with sunlight on it, but I shined a flashlight on it and it was still readable. The brightness is much, much better than the Xenarc TSV700 I came from (both the standard 700TSV, and the one I had modified by MotorCity to be transflective).

I didn't have much time to play with it after the instal before I went to work, so I couldn't see if I could get 800x480 (native resolution) out of it, but at 800x600 it was sharp. Those of you who have played with 700TSV's know that 800x600 on a 800x480 monitor know that it looks kind of fuzzy; this wasn't, this was nice and sharp even though the resoultion was 800x600 and the native resolution is 800x480. No black bars or anything like that. If I can get it to display actual 800x480, it might be even better.

As for the screen itself, I was able to get it to fit in my G35 mount that I had earlier bought from mp3car.com. Not taking it apart, but with some widening of the G35 mount I fit the actual case of the cartft screen in it. A little beautification needs to take place, but I'm happy with it.

The only thing that was a PITA (and this wasn't the fault of cartft) was that the all-in-one cord from the screen was a male plug, whereas the previous all in one cable I had run that was with my Xenarc had a male end on the monitor side, so I did have to run new cabling, which added about an hour to my install.

The customer service was good, as I had mentioned, but an email when my order shipped would have been nice, considering the CarTFT website is somewhat non-standard, and difficult to navigate. Oh well.

One final thing to consider is that given the weakness of the US dollar right now, the price was pretty high since you had to convert to Euros, but thats not cartft's fault.

All in all I am very happy with it!

Well, sunny day today, and the screeen, even with direct sunlight on it, was still just as legible and clear as my Xenarc 700TSV was during a very cloudy day.

Very impressed with this screen, I wish I had gone with this in the first place than wasting money on multiple different other solutions.

Oh, on the cartft website, they have drivers for embedded Intel graphics chipsets that promise to give 800x480. I have a discreet video card, so I haven't tried those, but it does mean that 800x480 should be really easy. Just give me some time to play with it, and I should be able to get 800x480 no problem.
