LVDS, what can I do with it?
Ok I have been reading all the horror stories about connecting a standard non VGA screen to a CarPC. I then tried it out and it was blurred but still readable. I just wanted to know.... is it possable to use the LVDS controller on my board to send the video to those screens? Will that get rid of the unclearness?

I run LVDS to my screen, but my screen is not your regular screen :
It is very very clear since it is digital all the way.

Hi,
a general LVDS 'port' (connector) is a 20pin flat connector.
If the cable has normal thin wires, you can find four pairs of twisted cables.
If it is a flatribbon cable, you can find four pairs of very thin line between thicker (GND) lines.
It is also a horror story to connect:
normal VGA output to LVDS,
normal VGA output to TTL RGB,
normal VGA output to DSTN,
ttl rgb to dstn, and so on with all the combination...

I connected LVDS from my motherboard to TTL RGB on my LCD panel. I think it is fair to say it was a bit tricky.
I had to reverse engineer the LVDS receiver I was using (PCM3540) and then build my own cable. But it was worth it.

My whole thing is that if the screens are LVDS I can use that rather then the composite port, which makes font look really bad.
I doubt this will help, but here are the stats from the box.
• 9" Sun Visor TFT LCD Monitor
• 2 Monitors Left and Ride side
• TFT Active Matrix System LCD
• PAL/NTSC System
• Two Video Inputs
• Full Function Remote Control
• English OSD Menu
• High Resolution
• Power Supply: DC 12V
Another question I had, does it matter how far the screens are.... These are flip downs, so they are up at the front... and the PC is not to far (behind passenger seat).

Yep, no help at all. If I had to guess though I'd say the screen is not suitable.

LVDS should be fine with that.

Well Im going to cross my fingers and hope that it is LVDS capable..... What brand name screens are usually LVDS. I still have a 15 inch screen to buy, how would I find out if it had LVDS before purchasing?

It's not down to the brand. That's like asking which brand of car can run on diesel.
LVDS is an interface on the panel, you need to get the panel model number and look at the data sheet, like I already said.
Mind you, you chose not to listen to me in this thread about the dual PCI riser and you haven't had a lot of luck with that, so I don't expect much more here.

The best method is (as Rob said) to peep into the datasheet of that panel.
But there are other methods, because the 15' is more than likely XGA.
Therefore it must be at least odd-even ttl rgb or lvds.
Odd-even ttl rgb needs a lot of wires, at least 40 or so, usually has two connectors.
LVDS is connected via fewer pins, about 20, and usually has twisted wires on the cable. That's in nutshell...perhaps it helps.

Thats because i decided that even with a second card the motherboard was simply 2 slow, so I bought a better one..... one that has good onboard graphics, which includes a LVDS controller....... dont be a meany.....
Anyways I took apart the display, and I dont know what I am looking at. The display is a Toshiba LTA090B400F. I took it apart and in one corner I see what looks like to be a power regulator. Then all the way to the right is a board with all the buttons...... Now in the middle I see interesting things..... Its a ribbon, white and it has a small connection plug at the end..... In the middle is a big board that says things all over it.... the part that caught my eye was a coluom that says AGND, BLUE, GREEN, RED, AGND, HSYNC, VSYNC, GND. Here are pix, but even with a 6 mega pixel cam, it was blurred...
I also found thier site, but I dont see my screen there... Im waiting for them to email me back. http://tmd-product.tmdisplay.com/index_e.cfm

Someone needs to read about their camera's Macro function.
Let's you focus close up.

Datasheet for the panel : http://www.thunderco.com.tw/pdf/090%20Panel%20Spec.pdf
18 bit RGB TTL, not LVDS. You'll need an LVDS receiver to run this from LVDS, such as PCM3540.
