controller cards?

quick question, does the controler card on home made systems ONLY control the touch aspect of a screen or does it also provide the VGA sgnal?

i.e. do you need a controller card as well as a video card for a touchscreen application? Or does the controller card provide both?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks!

There are 2 different types of controllers:

1)Touch Screen Controllers- they take the signal from the screen membrane and convert it to a serial, ps2 or usb signal, which looks like a pointing device to the computer.

2)LCD controller cards- the output the correct video signal to the lcd screen.

i dont know if you need a regular video card if youre using an lcd driver card, but i just wanted to clear up the difference between touch controllers and lcd controllers.

There are also LCD controller cards WITH a touchscreen controller included.
an example of one is the datalux board.

For further clarification, which part needs the 5V - the LCD or the controller?

either one could use 5v. It depends on the model. although i think the backlight on the lcd would prolly take 12v.
