I'd like to add to the list of features on my 629. I happened to notice that if I hit the left arrow while the display is active, it would cycle through different brightness settings. I know this works on the VGA input because that's the only one I use. I could only assume that it would work for the others. This could be handy when going from day to night. Full brightness to minimal with one touch. Back to full with 3.

I didnt make a tutorial because the method I used is not very convenient. It requires the dismanteling and sodering of the remote. I have 3 Lilliput screens so I had extra remotes. I tried to do the hack directly to the screen and it resulted in the screen not working currectly due to me not knowing how to read and understand curcuit boards. So what I did is I first melted the soder holding the IR bulb to the remote. I then added a red wire and a black wire and attached the bulb to the end (basically extended it) I then opened the screen and placed the bulb right next to the IR reciever on the screen. I did this because I was worried that if someone were to block the IR, the screen would not switch to reverse. I also added a connector so that I can disconnect the IR wire to move the screen. I then sodered a micro relay to the button on the remote that is required to switch between PC/AV1. I ran a line from the 12v+ of the reverse light to the micro relay. So basically what it does is when I go into reverse the micro relay clicks, which simulates a button press, which causes the screen to go to AV1 where the cam is connected. When I leave reverse the micro relay turns off and clicks the other end simulating another button press which brings it back to PC mode. Also as a note, you have to disable AV2, otherwise the screen will not change to the disired spot.

Is there any reliable way to tell the 2008 from the 2007-6 models without opening it up and looking?
Thanks

Yes.. the easiest and non-intrusive way is to look at the bezel surrounding the LCD. On the 2008 models, the right side is wider then the left side. There's also some more details on what you can look for in the beginning of this thread.
If your buying it online, make sure you are looking at a picture of the exact model you are getting. From what I've seen, several of the online retailers use generic lilliput/xenarc images which are of previous years..

Wow, thank you.
I hadn't noticed... shows how observant I am.
Sorry for it being a bit off topic.

Wish I knew about the bezel method. Guess I'll have to see once I get my car back, if it appears to be LED backlit. The entire bezel is gone, but I'll ask if they still have what they chopped up at least.
Doesn't seem to be a consistency even with the programming as a way to tell.

It might be a little hard, but you could also measure the power that it uses. The 2008 lilliputs with LED backlighting use around 5-6watts when in use, whereas the 2007 and before with CCFL use over 7watts when in use.
What about asking the place you bought the LCD from.. they should be able to tell you, unless you don't trust them or something.

I trust them, but mistakes happen. The seller is a large volume seller and an older unit might have been shipped instead.
I just like to be 100% sure, before doubting the results.

quick question, on my EBY701 I can get into the hidden menu 1 with language, but no further. Hitting the menu button just exits the menu all together.
Any help on this?
Thanks
EDIT: Nevermind, figured it out, had to press MENU on the screen itself not the remote

Which menu button are you hitting, the one on the remote, or the screen itself. You have to use the menu button on the screen.

Just to confirm, are your 2008's wider on the right or left? I got one that seems to fresh off the assembly line that has a wider bezel on the right than the left side.
The lil manufacturer date stamp shows April 08 and it's definitely the LED variety.

Darn.. I've always had issues with my rights and lefts. Serves me right for being born with two left hands
You are correct, the right side of the casing is wider, not the left. I'll update my post to avoid confusion for others.
