Well installer broke my touchscreen (not the LCD), and ordered a new 2008 off ebay, so I'll get to check out the "new" bezel I guess and see.
The ebay seller had it listed as "BEDLIGHT", which I guess is "backlight" in some cheap translation program they were using.

Is the installer paying to replace the screen? I have always hated to have installer and or mechanics touch my car. All the engine work I do myself unless i dont know how to do it. Unfortuanatly I dont know how to do fabrication work, etc, so i have to have someone else do it. Im having Nexson (his screen name on here) do mine. His work is impressive and he lives only one city away.

The installer replaced it.
Believe it or not, the replaced unit that was to be installed today.... well, I saw it work inside the shop, but it was set for Video 1, so it didn't turn on in my car (powered on, no signal of course). When the installer took it back in, and set it to PC, and then back out to my car, the LCD started smoking. They ordered a new one (yes, 2nd LCD they are replacing). Both screens, were just bad luck. The first was a crack in the touch panel, and when I saw it, it was so loose (the LCD), it was not due to being put in too tight. Today, I saw no electrical reasoning for it to fry like that. Maybe the installer killed a leprechaun or something...his work is up there with pros, but his luck is the opposite.
Apparently someone in the area swings by the store and is a moderator on the forum, as we were talking about it today.
Edit:
The bezel had identical sides. The VGA of the replaced one today (which smoked and fried), had completely different VGA connection to the LCD than the last 2008 629 and my original 701EBY. This one had a very very small (think mini-SD size) connector. It was LED backlit and used the same service menu code posted earlier in this thread. The green text showed Version: v0.1 08-03-11 ... So, no clue on anything so far, other than I feel like I'm the one that killed a leprechaun.

Brightness Adjustment?
Quote:
I'd like to add to the list of features on my 629. I happened to notice that if I hit the left arrow while the display is active, it would cycle through different brightness settings. I know this works on the VGA input because that's the only one I use. I could only assume that it would work for the others. This could be handy when going from day to night. Full brightness to minimal with one touch. Back to full with 3.
Can anyone confirm (it wasn't obvious from this posting) that the 2008 model has this feature?
While most people seem to want brighter and brighter displays, my issue is that the display in my car (a 3 year-old Lilliput) is entirely too bright at night, and I don't like the "use a washed-out gamma" approach to making it dimmer. So, this feature would be great. How dim does it go?

I can tell you that worked for my Lilliput, which was supposed to be an 08 according to the packing slip that came with it. But everything else leads me to believe it's an 07 or earlier. I know it's a CCL(CCFL, whichever it is.) It goes to "0" brightness, which is very good for night use. At least for me. I'm the kinda guy that keeps his dash as bright as it goes.
Edit: I would like to add that the hidden menu does come up with my 629. Well, not so much a hidden menu. But by pressing 588966(whatever it actually is) I do get a small box that allows me to put in a code. I do have the auto on feature and putting in a code I found somewhere on here also brought up "TV" as one of my inputs. It seems this works for more than the 08's. I'd also like to point out a mistake I made. It's the right arrow, not the left. One more thing, the display returns to the brightness set with the OSD when the power is cycled.
