Velcro?

I am going to be modifying the standard mount that comes with the Xenarc 700-TSV into some sort of quick-disconnect model. Currently, anytime I come/go somwhere I have to unscrew two separate knobs, tilt the screen forward to slide it up and out of the slot (or it will hit the windshield) and, well, it's just a very hefty, time-consuming process.

I am considering either velcro, or maybe magnets of some sort (neodymium?) Can anyone suggest anything better? Will magnets distort the screen image? Is there a better solution than velcro (which is loud, and after just a few uses tends to get a bit tattered - not to mention how difficult it is to pull something off of velcro without fighting and twisting.) I just want to be able to take the monitor down in one second, not 30. Thanks!

IMO magnets are likely to cause interference, depending on their size. The magnetic field could show up as colour distortion.

I think velcro is the best option

Alright. Well, I am curious, would magnets cause any permanent damage? I know how with a CRT, it causes distortion that sticks even after you remove the electric field. In other words, if I give it a try - to see whether or not there is any distortion, will there be any permanent negative effects to the screen?

But yeah, so far it seems velcro is my only other option...

I think your best option is like those quick drive removers for gaming cases. The ones with the 2 indents on the side, you push in and it squeezes the metal, and it slides out of a frame. So screen with those tabbies, just push it in and it works. Push in their tabs, and it pulls out.

But remember, the easier it is for you to get the screen out, the easier it is for Mr. Thief to get it out too.

I don't think you understand. My screen is not mounted in the dash. If it was, I wouldn't be so paranoid about it being stolen. It's mounted from the windshield, so anyone could break a window, and reach in and take it, which is why I want it to be easily removable, so I can just put it in the glovebox. This is the mount:

The big base is stuck to the windshield.

Why would you not mold it in? Looks pretty weird when there is a big globby stuck to a windshield.

And those mounts are easy to take off anyways. The easier it is to remove, the more likely it is to remove itself while you are driving. And velcro is pretty much guarenteed to fling your screen out your window when driving down the interstate.

I am not molding it in for a few reasons:

1. Car has 206,000 miles and isn't going to last much longer, so I don't feel like putting a lot of work into it. I will mold it in in my next car.

2. I like the factory radio unit, which sounds nice hooked up to a factory 200 Watt Amp/Sub under the drivers seat. Even if I didn't like it, I wouldn't want to have to fight with any rewiring.

3. Even if I did ditch the stock unit, and fit the screen in the double-din slot, that would leave no room for an aftermarket stereo short of removing/moving the ashtray and cigarette lighter. Again, a great deal of work.

4. I have never done anything like that, nor do I have any skills when it comes to molding my own bezels and stuff. I'd love to do that, but I'd never be able to, and even if I did, I'm a neat freak, so it would have to look really good, and I doubt I could do that.

Also, the stock mount I am using is NOT easy to remove the screen from. The problem is that the top of the screen is very close to the windshield, which makes it very VERY difficult to even reach back and unscrew the first screw. Secondly, being so close means that I have to loosen the second knob in order the tilt the screen down before I slide it out. I'm good with my hands, and with mechanical objects, but even someone with good hand-eye coordination struggles to do it in less than 15 seconds, which doesn't sound like a lot, but it's frustrating. Screwing it back in though, is where it becomes a nuisance, and usually takes me a good minute.
