Extending Ribbon on Gamin LCD

I would like to take my Garmin GPS apart so that the brains can be put somewhere else and I can mount the LCD inside of my ashtray. I haven't been able to find any information about extending the ribbon cables on one of these. Can someone help? Will CAT5 work?

I just extended the wiring to the lcd on my wideband gauge. It's an Innovate LM-1. I used cat 5 cables and it worked fine.

you gotta see how the ribbon cable is to make this determination, some are easy to work with & some are next to impossible... cat5 is good, if you can extend it in the first place...

Thanks, I just needed to see if it was possible. I'll have to order a GPS and crack it open.

Wait you don't already have one. Do you hace a car pc? If not why don't you save up for one and integrate gps into the system.

I'm putting it in my Cadillac. I thought about a car PC, but I just don't have the time especially since the audio system is such a pain in the ***. I have a Garmin GPS that I am going to replace but I don't want to crack it open as I'm sure it will be much different when compared to the unit I am going to purchase.

I'm hoping that the ribbon cable that Garmin uses is standardized so that I can just find a longer one but I don't think it will be that easy.
