Throwing a LinITX into a Xenarc casing

I got the LinITX TMR but its not fitting into the setup I have right now, the casing is about 7-8mm too tall, and i can't get it to sit flush. Plus, the LinITX casing is not wide enough to fill in the width of the car bezel's opening, I've got a few mm on each side empty. The Xenarc on the other hand fit perfectly both vertically and horizontally, and I got it to sit flush. So I opened up the LinITX case to see what I could move around or something, and it looks like the LCD sits on top of 3 separate boards which are screwed into the casing's back cover. What if I unscrewed them, drillied into a an empty xenarc casing, and remounted all of it? Do you think it would work out, or is this just a really stupid idea altogether? Getting the LinITX molded into my dash is going to be pretty difficult seeing as its too tall and not wide enough, so chances are the case would have to be redone somehow anyways, and then if I ever wanted to switch it out down the road it would be really hard with everything fiberglassed and bondoed together.

Anyway I have put the standard non TMR Linitx screen into a a Lilliput case (plus a Linitx 8" main board with a Lilliput screen into a Lilliput case) so putting one screen into another case is possible, it's just there are no mounting points for the boards, so you either have to stick them or make your own mounting points.

Warning though, you have to be very careful with the ribbon cable that goes between the screen and the main board.

I looked at the button boards of each and worked out what wires did what, then just soldered the leads from the linitx board to lilliput one.

Yeah, but it's a normal wire ribbon, as opposed to the flat ribbon cables between the LCD and main board.

I will be doing a second one this week (these are for the headrest monitors)

did you ever figure out what is actually being sent down the wire when a button is pressed? Like is it a +12v or something? And is there a constant plus and ground in the cable? My ribbon cable for the buttons stopped working so I need a way around it.

There is one common lead (this may be the +Ve or it may be ground), this then splits to one side of each button.

the other side of each button then goes to the connector, each button has their own pin on that connector.

Nothing fancy at all.

so what that means is that when a button is pressed, its wire will become either +V or ground, whatever base is being supplied? i guess that also means that there must be a +V and ground coming in on the main cable. I'm going to try to figure out which wire is constant +V and then jump it to the wire for the button I want to activate. Unfortunately I can't think of any other way to get this working....
