I tried to get the 12V relays from RadioShack but there so ghetto when it comes to their component stuff. Said they had 2, but when I went they had zero. So I ordered 2 from futurlec. The auto switch mod isnt at the top of the list, so the 2 week wait is ok. I did find a set of small little circuit boards at Radio Shack and thought they would be perfect to make a small auto switch device. Im also going to buy connectors to make it easy to install and uninstall to the screen and the Reverse 12v line.

Been following this thread for a little bit, and looks like there's now a good (and simple) solution =). Will be using this in my install, but had one question for ya.
What happens when you shift quickly through reverse? What I mean is that when you are parked somewhere, turn on the car, and shift directly into drive? Does the screen stay on the current input (i.e. PC), or does it flicker to the other input, then back to PC? Or...?
Since you already have it all setup, do you mind testing it in case you havn't already?

Mine isnt set up yet in the car, infact the whole PC is still in the house having the bugs worked out. I will try it when I get it in. Now do you mean if you start the car in drive? If yes then it would stay on PC, then if you hit reverse it would go to reverse. Now if you mean shift super fast, I dont know, I would like to see how it reacts also, I say this because the capacitor keeps the relay powered for a certain amount of seconds, maybe even milaseconds..... Ill have to see.

I think the ultimate solution for this is to devise something around a PIC chip or BASIC stamp. There's too many possibilities for a set of relays to handle everything. To have the screen blip while going from Park to Drive would get annoying. I think the Reverse input needs to be solid for at least a second or two before the monitor should be allowed to view the camera signal. I've got a bunch of stuff on my plate right now, but I'm gonna look at trying this approach.
I did manage to reverse engineer the switch circuit board for the EBY701. Everything on the board is 5v, so don't apply any 12v signals. The power switch has its own input to the processor board. It's pulled to 5v thru a 100 ohm chip resistor. The other 6 switches are split into two groups of three. Each group is pulled high by a separate 100 ohm resistor, but then they use a voltage divider scheme to tell the processor which switch has been pushed. It's kind of weird, but it obviously works.
One other thing I noted that might be useful: The display will work with the switch board completely disconnected.
I should probably take some time and post pictures of my EBY701 dissection and reassembly into its new home. It has turned out better than I had hoped for. Film at 11.

If you read up in the post, we had some1 point to a PIC solutions and it had the same issues that can happen with the relays. The only way to really avoid these issues is to directly tie into the screens circiutry so that the PIC knows what mode the screen is on. This is wayyyyyyyyyyyy to much hassle. We want something fast and easy.

Build nearing the end
Since I am close to finishing my build, I decided to create the circuit board for the auto switch. Its the fisrt time I have done this in a nice and neat way. The secret is to use very thin soder, before I was using the thick one. I did have to get different parts to do this then what was in my diagram. Before when I went to get the 12V relays I went to a upper class radio shack that turned out to be so ghetto. This time I did the opposite, i went to a radio shack in a ghetto neighborhood that turned out to be very organized.
ITEM 1: 12VDC SPDT Relay (The same as listed in the chart)
ITEM 2: 12VDC SPST Relay (I went with this one because I didnt need all the connections that a SPDT relay needed.)
ITEM 3: 1000 uf Relay (470 uf was not strong enough when applying it to a 12VDC setup, on the 5VDC it worked perfectly but 12VDC no.)

yes it works........... I now have to get a plastic box to make sure it stays safe. I think I saw some on clearence at another radio shack.... So one hurtle down, and now 1005958 to go with my build, lol

So I had a shot at building this over the weekend aaaaannnndddd... it didn't work.
Initially both relays stayed on for a second or so after the power was cut.
Small change needed to get it going (and based on your photos it looks like you built it this way, but the diagram is wrong)

this is 889gl new with auto swich like xenarc
the parts indicated are monted by me, if you have the same chip on your oard the auto swith requres onli 2 resistors of 10k smd and a npn Gen Purpouse transistor as indicated.
With two parts can switch video 1 or 2

just revisiting this hack option, can u explain the above again?
r u saying by only adding in 2 components the auto switch function will work only if u have a certain IC on ur existing MB of the LCD screen?
More details pls
