ShawJohn, I was thinking that maybe we should continue this discussion in another tread. the tittle "Touchscreen pointer jumps to right edge" is not quite what we experience so people with the same issue as us (x-coordinate getting bad) might miss this info.

What I mean is that as you moved your finger from left to right, the pointer increments to the right were less and less as you approached the right border, like a logarithmic graph behaves. I did the update while driving and I couldn't use the carputer for the rest of the trip, it was so bad I had to vnc in to run the calibration utility.
This points to a driver issue, as soon as the driver was replaced, the calibration was lost. I thought calibrating the screen meant training the controller on were the edges of the screen were so it could send the right coordinates to the driver. The way this seems to work is that calibration is done on software on the driver.
This could be confirmed by taking the screen to different computers and verifying that calibration is "lost" as you moved it from computer to computer.
The updated driver didn't made a difference, the screen still has a bump on the right hand of the screen.
Like ShawJohn said, the right hand side is working as far as the Y coordinate goes, its just the X coordinated that get screwed.

Exactly as I thought, although I didn't realise the car had updated its touchscreen software automatically through WU. I saw the new driver, just didn't know it had installed. I knew it was software related as a couple of times the pointer had just drifted left and then back again a few times whilst I was holding it down. I was beginning to this my TS controller might be going for a burton.

Will rollback to old driver tomorrow just to be sure...

It could be that there is a driver issue, AND a physical TS fault too My TS has had right had side issues for ages, but has only done this stuff recently, last month or two!

X-axis issue moved to new thread

my lilliput 8 inch also starts dragging the mouse pointer to the left-bottom corner of the screen. tried several drivers, de-activated other serial devices (gps mouse, etc.) and guess what: it worked for 10 minutes, enabling gps mouse and other stuff brought the problem back. okay tried to disable the above but now problem persists.

wtf this jumping mouse pointer is all about? worked for ages and now...

upspace,
Like it turned out in this thread, it's nothing magical, just a broken touch panel. Save your nerves and just order a new one from ebay. only 30-40$. Of course you can take it out and check that it doesn't have any s*it stuck on edges, and that the case isn't bending it in any way.

i don't think it is broken. i did some more investigation

1. turning off any usb2serial device (psu monitor, gps etc.) stops the mouse jumping/tearing to lower left corner. don't know why this suddenly happened. never seen before
2. doing calibration tells me that the controller should work. at least pointing on the crosses are immediately recognized and moved to the next cross
3. the accuracy is good on top left corner and gets worse and worse to the lower right corner

anybody had this? which egalax driver is best to use?

How can you be so sure its simply a hardware fault when driver software in general can be one of the most problematic areas of windows.

This issue hadn't shown its face until 2007 as far as I can remember.

Broken overlays and wonky controller cards aside, Im sure some of these problems are software related.

Sometimes my TS isn't even detected by windows, other times it works fine... for a while. Sometimes when I click the screen and hold, the pointer wanders to the left, but I can't reproduce it clinically, it just happens at random.

Im going to search out one of the original drivers tonight if I can and try that. I have an original Lilli Driver CD somewhere

What we need is a nice new batch of LED backlit 7" XGA touchscreens with polarised transflective overlays... For less than £130+P&P - That might convince me to buy a new one

Was that for me ShawJohn?

I don't know how much more could I be sure as when I replaced the touch panel & controller with new ones (new controller was identical with the old one), my problems where gone. And the problematic ones where tested in 3 different PC's, with many different drivers and the problem occurred suddenly without any changes to the software at the first place.

But sure, that was just my case..

temperature issue?

so how to replace a controller? how does it look like? where to get new one? etc. thx
