There is no 18bit LVDS (9 pairs or how do you mean?).
I think you mean 18bit (6-6-6 bits for each color) ttl rgb.
You can use DAC (digital-analogous converter) for each color.
Use the clk signal to synchronise the DACs with digital data.
I think HSYNC and VSYNC are the same than at VGA, but I am not sure.

The 18-bit refers to the color data transferred in the serial data stream, not the physical link itself: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=K...iRBG_TvY&hl=en

I see. In this case you need a converter chip. Perhaps direct converter chip does exist, that produces VGA signal. In other case you need a LVDS-ttl rbg converter first, then a DAC.

I am trying to convert the iDrive signal in a BMW E60. I want to use the original lvds signal with a VGA 7" touchscreen.
The oroginal 6.5" screen had a resolution of 400x280.
The lvds cable has 3 pairs for 3 colour channels and 2 seperate sync wires.
BMW Data below:
Pin assignment X13823, 10-pin (black)
Pin Type Explanation
1 E LVDS channel 2 (positive)
2 E LVDS channel 2 (negative)
3 --- ---
4 E LVDS channel 1 (positive)
5 E LVDS channel 1 (negative)
6 E LVDS clock (positive)
7 E LVDS clock (negative)
8 --- ---
9 E LVDS channel 0 (positive)
10 E LVDS channel 0 (negative)
I need to be able to modify this signal so it can be displayed on a standard vga screen, or even through a composite input.
Is anyone able to help me out or provide info on this?
Cheers

Can anybody identify this signal or offer some info as to how to intercept it?

Looks like notebooks interface signaling usually used by 14.1 displays. NOT wide!

So is this signal a TTL analog signal or LVDS?

As the names of the pins say: LVDS.

I am aware that the specifications for the Sharp lcd in this display are LVDS but I have researched on the net and not found info on an lvds signal with just 8 wires. Most are 24 or more. Nobody on here seems to be able to give any info on what format of LVDS signal this is or what to do with it.
If I don't ask questions (how ever stupid they may be) I don't get answers........

I never heard of lvds with 24 wires. Got any links?
Single channel lvds has 3 or 4 twisted pairs (depending on 18 or 24 bit color iirc). Double channel has double that.
