Large LCD Screens?
I want to put a large LCD in my passenger side to function as the monitor for my carputer. Has anyone done this and have pictures and such? I'm still working on some fabrication ideas and a little inspiration never hurts. I'm also putting a smaller touchscreen in the center of the dash, soo i can play with it when im driving, mainly for music purposes. <--- I just thought that was cool. lol

Someone fabbed a 15" LCD into the dash of a Dodge Ram truck. There are pictures here on the forums.
You might check the Show Off Your Project forum to get an idea of what others have done.
It has a big dash to begin with, and it still looked out of place and awkward to me. Personally, I don't think there is any way an LCD larger than 10 inches would look right in even the largest dash.

Do a search for user DodgeCummins. You'll find pictures of his setup. I believe he has a 15" monitor in his truck.
I have a 1993 Chevrolet G20 van with plenty of dash space, and plan on putting a similarly sized monitor in as well.
Here is an example of someone else that is doing exactly what I want:
http://mp3van.com/?page_id=6
It says the screen is 12", I'm not yet sure of the maximum size.

It all depends on how good a fabricator you are..... I know TurboCad put a 15 inch in a Altima and it looked stock to me, so beautiful........... I wish I had a big dash, although I drive a Dodge truck too. I decided on a 7 inch....

7" screen may sound small, but it isnt too bad once you get into the car. Also a 15" screen at night time will be awesome at blinding you to death.
I have to agree with DP, a large screen is just showy and doesnt look OEM at all. Showy itself is not always bad, but a large screen looks really out of place.
You can even try the 4:3 8" monitors which to me at least look huge compared to the 7" 16:9 even though it isnt.

Toaster, you might have a point. What is the largest monitor I can get away with in a van and still look factory and not out of place?
Did you check out the mp3van.com link? Does that one look factory? I might reconsider the size if that's the case.

The 7 to 8 inch range can look factory, more than that says aftermarket (my view)

I dont think that altima was a 15", I think it was 10.4" in portrait. That's max imho. But until the factories start whippin' em out like that, there's no way it (or 15") would look factory. Well, maybe factory for an airliner.

I think the monitor in the van looks nice although it seems to be in a rather odd position. I'm not really going for OEM at all. I'm fiberglassing my entire dash and ripping it to shreds basicly. It's not going to look anything like it did before. I'd like to have the large monitor for the passenger side soo my wife could play on the computer on trips and such. I will not be using this monitor while I'm driving. I will be putting in a much smaller monitor, probably a 7'' or so to control auxilary music controls and for maps and such, car diagnostic tools as well. Also, I dont think i mentioned my car, I drive a '94 mustang GT.
