Unhappy Lots of interference from Lilly. What to do? :(

Hi all,

Basically my car PC is pretty much complete, and I have a 8.4" 4:3 800x600 Lilliput moulded into the centre console in the middle.

There is a problem however - the screen is emitting a lot of interference!

With the screen on, my GPS, radio, Wifi, and Bluetooth are pretty useless. I can never get a GPS lock, can't listen to radio, can't connect to any access point, and can't pair with any device.

With the screen off, everything is better. With the screen disconnected, everything is just great!

So any idea please? Anyway I can reduce the interference? (Not sure whether it is EMI or RF interference)

Thanks.

Are you sure that it is the screen? Do you have an inverter in the car? Because inverters are known to cause a lot of interference. If you want to reduce the amount of interference that the screen makes, though, first run it off of a separate power supply so that the screen will not let interference onto the main power lines. In addition, you could buy better-shielded signal lines for the screen. If the screen continues to create this much interference, I guess you could buy some brass mesh and try to shield it like a faraday cage, but that's way over the top. If that is the case, you should probably consider your warranty options.

Hi,

I think it is the CABLES of the screen. I don't have an inverter in the car, but the screen obviously has one inside for the CCFL backlight. If I shutdown the car PC, my PDA can get a GPS lock very quickly. If I switch the car PC on, my PDA immediately lose the GPS lock.

This morning I attached a ferrite on the cable from the screen, and things have improved. Instead of getting 3 satellites with no lock on the PDA, I now get about 8 satellites with no lock.

What I am going to do next, I am going to order a bunch of ferrites (probably ten or so) and wrap them around different things!
