I just had the pleasure of riding shotgun in my mom's new car with the sun out and you know your a geek when you start thinking about the screen. Immidiately I noticed that it is at least VGA quality, and 100% readable in the sun. Today was the first sunny day since she bought it last week, and the sun was shining directly on it, and the blacks looked black, the white looked white, and all the colours inbetween were perfect. They looked absolutely the same when in the sun as when in the dark garage.
I have seen my screen (el cheapo), a transflective screen by mp3car, a transflective screen by motorcity, and a screen on a fujistu laptop (the "outside" screen, reflective maybe?) and this surpassed them all big time. Also I was looking hard to see the resistive touch input panel "dots" and I could find none. Capactive perhaps? It is a touchscreen, and it is gorgeous. ME WANT!!!
Also she was in the car and just after I finished my tech support duties of pairing her phone with the car, music paused, screen showed the number and name of the contact pulled from the phonebook, and it came right through the speakers and all. I never really saw the use for phone through the PC so I never even tried to put it in. Now ME WANT!!!
It was the nicest screen I have ever seen, and I want to find a way of getting a screen just like it for my install. I did the 3M upgrade to my screen and it was much better than stock, but still worse than the other solutions I have seen but it was close enough to them I was satisfied (expescially at a cost of $0), but now I have been spoiled and things will never be the same.
I am pretty sure Lexus uses the same screen for all their cars but incase they dont it is a RX350 with Gen5 navigation. So where can I get this screen. Any repair people know about this one?
And is the plural of "Lexus", "Lexi" like "octopus" and "octopi"?
