I had the 10.4" Shark screen from
www.gooddeals18.com
It was a very nice screen. Bright with good colors/contrast/etc. But the resolution was a little low for what I needed. It was 800x600 and I was trying for a higher resolution to match my HD source material.
Also the screen didn't have a great viewing angle. Don't get me wrong it is good but not great. When you move to the side in normal driver side / passenger side viewing or if you sit higher than the screen ,it is dimmer and loses contrast.
So I was off on a search for a better screen.
I found this one :
http://www.avionicslcd.com/10.4%20in...,4_XGA_LCD.htm
The specs:
Size 10.4"
Resolution 1024x768
Brightness 400 nit
Contrast Ratio 500:1
Backlight 2 ccfl
Viewing angle 89 ° / 89 ° / 89 ° / 89 °
Cost $589
I called AvionicsLcd up and after quite a bit of talking I got one ordered. It came in yesterday and I am quite impressed.
First the resolution is excellent. My 720p HD movies really shine. You can see all the detail now with none of the blurriness that was in the 800x600 screen.
Next the viewing angle is
INCREDIBLE. You can literally move ANYWHERE in the car and it looks the same as if you were sitting right in front of it. It has a TRUE 89 ° viewing angle, up/down/left/right.
The brightness is terrific. It is definitely a lot brighter than the Shark screen which is rated at 300 nits. I have to turn the Shark's contrast and brightness way up to match the VisionTouch and then I lose contrast ratio and black levels. With the high brightness of the VisionTouch the black levels are wonderful.
Sunlight readability. Well it's been cloudy all day, but yesterday when I installed it for a few minutes the sun was out and the readability was a lot better than the Shark. But I will have to do more testing when I get some sunshine
Overall if you want a good 10.4" and money isn't that big of a deal, then I HIGHLY recommend this screen.
Here's some pics showing it as compared to the Shark.
The VisionTouch is on top and the Shark on bottom.
These tests were to show the incredible viewing angle.
These pics really show the off angle viewing advantage of the VisionTouch.
You can really see in this next pic that the Shark has a horrible viewing angle from above
