Hello all, new to this forum, very interesting stuff, and trying to weave links from the SFF (small form factor) forums and the DIY Audio people making cheap projectors from lap-tops LCDs.

The holy grail on this forum seems to be a small high res screen with VGA. The Xenarc does this, and is priced accordingly.

The new EpiaM mobo has a 40-pin connector on it for LVDS (or TTL) link to an LCD. We're trying to find more info on this, and on compatible LCDs. The Xenarc 7" uses the Panasonic EDTCB18 module, also with a 40-pin cable. Hmmm... Also trying to find more info on this...

You can pick up the non-VGA Xenarcs quite cheaply, but there may well be other LCDs that have LVDS / TTL connectors that are compatible.

In essence, what's the point of working with an analogue converted signal into LCDs when we could be looking at keeping it digital all the way with the EpiaM...?

Sorry if I'm missing something bleedin' obvious here! It's all pretty new to me. More detail on the EpiaM on this thread.

Any thoughts...?

Well on the Epia M there’s only a 40 pin header to get the optional LVDS module on.

I hope that when this option will be available there’ll be also a list of compatible TFT…

There’s already a lot of LVDS TFT! (most of them are 4/3)

Hope we will find a 7” 16/9 TFT that is lvds compatible..

would really like to hook up a laptop panel to an EPIA board... still waiting to buy an EPIA till i know that i can do this, thanks

No, fraid not... so it's been over 6 months now that Via have had reference to LVDS headers in the manual that don't exist on the board...

Talk is that the new Epia M10000 with the Nehemiah core (die very soon... where have I heard that before!) WILL have the LVDS headers, but no spec on what LCD controllers they support.

Another option is to create a DVI output from this, which I'm sure would need some sort of daughterboard... apparently fairly straightforward but haven't followed it up yet.

If you haven't already, check on the Sudhian Forums for latest news -- many threads, you'll need to search around a bit. Will post here if I make any progress or hear any news...

I have a M10000 and asked Via a month ago about the LVDS connection. This is what they said:

The new EPIA-M10000 with LVDS option requires a LVDS daughterboard to function. The motherboard and LVDS daughterboard is on the sampling stage. To request for sample or price information please contact our sales representative at 510-687-5771. Thank you. tech support

I did call and they say it will be another couple months before the LVDS is ready. I also sent an email to Commell about their new board. Here is the link

What's up lemming. I've seen you over at DIYaudio. I haven't posted here in ages. I'm feeling all nostalgic and emotional. I went through some major LCD interfacing adventurures here (http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...+Color+Screens)

I'm pretty excited about the VIA LVDS transmitter. It's very possible that we could see regular motherboards with LCD controllers built in, and all of the necessary parameters to interface a particular panel could be in the mobo's bios menu.

Hiya Lifter, good to hear from yer! Yeah I read about your (and others') adventures over at DIY Audio. Interesting stuff, and I learned loads, many thanks for that. But I haven't had the time to go into it further, partly because I've been awaiting news on the LVDS on the Via boards.

My aim is to find a high-res 7" monitor to build into a small form factor case, using a Mini-ITX board or similar.

Many industrial boards seem to have LVDS outputs, so it's not particularly pioneering territory... Whether the controllers are built into the board, or whether there are daughter boards (which I'd prefer, for flexibility and upgradeability), it's certainly an interesting way forward...

What's the new project for you then?!?
