Updating a datalux?

I have a LMV10R touchscreen. It's a little dim, and I'm not too happy with the whole 3V issue. I didn't think it'd be that much of a problem until I ended up with a lot of extra cable for the amplifier to connect to the board. I'd also like to make it a little brighter. So, I'm wondering if anyone has some experience, or even ideas, on how to upgrade one of these. I haven't cracked it open yet - no tools around. From what I have gathered, your typical LCD is made up of the screen, a controller, and a backlight. Apparently, the touchscreen is made up of just the overlay and associated controller. Now, according to one post I've seen, the Datalux has a combined LCD/touchscreen controller. What I fear is that this is the part that requires 5V, and it's probably pretty expensive to replace. So, is it an economical option to upgrade what I have, or should I eBay this one and get a different monitor altogether?

I've upgraded a Datalux. It can be a little tricky but it will work out for you if you just be careful and do your homework. Datalux controllers run on 12V and will output 5V. The touchscreen controller is a separate part and runs on 5V. The LCD screen also runs on 5V.

I'd go with keeping what you have and just upgrading. That controller can work with a whole bunch of LCDs. Keep your eyes open for Sharp laptop screens on e-bay. The one I bought on e-bay was an LQ104V1DG11 - 350 nits. You can usually just check what model they are selling iand then look up info about it either on google or in here. I had to also buy a new backlight inverter for my screen from milesie.co.uk for $60.

I'm trying to get away from that 5V requirement - the Epia M doesn't like it, and I don't really have room for the amplifier and associated cables.

Hmmm....good point...I took my controller from a LMV10R2 so I didn't have to deal with the amplifier and stuff. Maybe you should just get one of those. Sell the LMV10R to another sucker

I'll probably ebay it - it works great for a side monitor on dual monitor machines - put IMs on it or something. Gonna have to sit on it a bit - Ebay's only getting $100 for them right now.

Ok, good. I'm only needing $230 to recover my costs.
