Casio announces Transmissive LCD available this month...

http://techon.nikkeibp.co.jp/english...080702/154195/

It sounds like this will bridge the gap between true reflective displays, that only use available sunlight or require front lighting indoors or in the shade, and transflective displays.

This display is fully transmissive (I think transflective equates to semi-transmissive, combining transmissive and reflective sections, hence the term transflective), with the backlight acting as both a light source when there isn't available sunlight (200cd/m2) and as a light reflector when there is available light (and the backlight can be turned off).

It supposedly has 30% better transmittance then semi-transmissive displays.

It will be available in a 6.5" (640x480)

Might be worth looking into. Anyone with more knowledge of displays than I do have any input?

A 6.5 640X480 will be the wrong dimensions for a double-din but will work well for headrests and non-standard-dash solutions.

I think it sounds like a good technology though. Hopefully someone will buy it and post pics...
