Got my Xenarc today.....its going back as soon as I get my RMA#
Hello everyone,
I've been reading this forum for more than a month now and have almost everything to get my "carputer" up and running. My Xenarc 700Y came today and I was so excited. Hooked it all up and the screen is weird. First thing I noticed is dust under the screen protector. It has a slight scratch on the top of the casing. I can deal with those, but there is one big problem. Everything has like a shadow to it. Pictues, icons, Text......It looks really bad. I've heard of "ghosting" with LCD screens....maybe this is it? For $470 it should be perfect. I sent an e-mail to the place i purchased it from and requested an exchange. Hopefully they will grant one and the new screen will be better.
This is driving me nuts. I want to finally get this thing up and running in my car and its one delay after another. ah well so goes online buying.
Anyone else experience this problem with their Xenarc? I have seen a few posts about dirt/dust on the screen, but none about shadows
Lyth

Interesting... never had a problem with Xenarc products before... Maybe the people you ordered it from sent you an older model they had layin' around?
I'd definitely try to send it back, but don't give up - they're great products.

I got my RMA number today.....I guess Ill ship it back tomorrow. Hopefully won't take to long to get a replacement.
It appears the monitor was shipped directly from xenarc:
Xenarc Technologies Corp.
17150 Newhope St., Suite 515
Fountain Valley, CA 92708
is where it came from......same place the RMA says to send it back to

If you didn't return the monitor yet try adjusting the brightness and contrast on the monitor and it should help the shadows problem.

I just boxed it back up, but maybe ill take it out and mess with it again. The thing that really bugs me is that right in the center of the screen there is a black dot along with 2 or 3 more on the screen. I guess it happens

Try setting both brightness and contrast to 71. Dots - is it dirt or dead pixels?

Armen, on the subject of dead pixels, how many dead ones on the Xenarc is considered reasonable, or are you sending them back to xenarc if they have any dead pixels?

I am not buying these from Xenarc but from the few I've seen so far there were no dead pixels (I hope it stays that way). For the money that these monitors cost there shouldn't be any problems...

exactly......if this had been a $100-$200 monitor i would live with it, but for what I paid it should be perfect

Unfortuneatly, this is nothing new man. This forum did a group buy on these monitors awhile ago. I was one of the unfortunate ones to be in on the group buy. The first one I received was in the same condition as you described: scuffed up outercasing and dust under the screen (picture was fine though). I RMA'd it (as a matter of fact I had to pay for the shipping back!) and received a second one. This one was in even worse condition. There was a scratch right in the middle of the screen, dust under the screen, and the case was still scuffed up. It is clear to me that these items are refurbs. You can read about this when I posted about it at that time:
Xenarc "customer service"
What urks me about the whole thing is the fact that they wont admit they are selling refurbs (or returns, or just plain old not-new) screens. If I were youd, Id just get a refund and go another route, IMHO!

That is really an outrage to have dust under the screen. They must be assembling these things in someone's garage. I assembled my own touchscreen/LCD in my house and managed to not get any dust in between. All you need is a can of compressed air.
