newbie questions

Obviously Im new to this forum, Im also just getting started on a video system for my car. Im looking into getting a monitor and was wondering if this was the same as the tm-701l that I read a little about on these forums....

http://www.mp3playerstore.com/stuff_.../In-Dash-7.htm

If they are is this the cheapest place to get them, are the DVD players with the TV tuners on that same website a good deal? Also a few more questions, some of these may be stupid but before you laugh remember Im new!

1. Whats the point of VGA inputs? Do you only need them if youre hooking up a computer in your car?

2. Are the touchscreens also for computers in your car? or do they have another purpose...

3. What is xenarc? I seen it mentioned a few times but still dont know what it is exactly.

thanks for any help!

that seems likea good deal. i have never priced a in-dash 7 inch lcd screen but it seems like a good price for one.

as for your other questions.

1) vga inputs are only needed really if you're going to hook up a computer to the screen. vga will give you a lot sharper picture then a tv/out will that is hooked up via rca cable. Give it a try yourself, if you have a tv/out video card. Hook it up to your tv and look and the different from the tv to the monitor. A lot of us use GPS and such in the car where we want clear crisp text. a vga screen will give us readable text while an rca input screen is very blurry.

2) touchscreens are also for the computer. they just act like a mouse. I don't like them since they are just as bad of a distraction as a mouse in my opinion. I like to us an IRman which is a remote.

3) that is a 7inch wide? vga screen. its a very good price. A lot of people on these boards buy them if they want something you don't have to build yourself.

1. VGA is the standard monitor connection. it will only accept video output from a computer. vga will give you a much better picture than a standard rca input on a screen.

2. A touchscreen is nothing more than an input device on top of the monitor display. it will not work with anything other than the computer that it is attached to.

3. xenarc is another screen. i believe it is a 7" vga widescreen, but im not to certain on the details.

hope that was semi helpful. sorry i dont have time for a huge explaination.

Get it from the guy on this board digitalww.
www.digitalww.com.

Why:
1. cost is the same $229 + shipping at mp3player store, or 240 with free shipping from digitalww. Depending on where you live and how much shipping is, getting it form digitalww may be cheaper.

2. you can buy a lcd *with* a integrated touchscreen from digitalww for about $100 more, if you get the lcd *get the touchscreen*

3. Digialww is a member who supports this forum, he will post data on lcds, tell people about the best deals, and assemble package deals that would otherwise be impossible to find, like the lcd+ touchscreen deal for a cheap $340

I have nothing against going with digitalww...the main reason I was going to go with the MP3playerstore.com is because I wanted to get the MP-9 or MP-888 dvd player with tv tuner, they offer a package deal for $369 on the mp-888. Right now I am too poor to afford a car computer, so I wont need touch screen or VGA inputs. Can digitalww get these dvd players? Also I was looking on mp3playerstore.com and noticed they called that monitor the tm-701, not tm-701l. is there any difference between the two or is one maybe an error or something, one has an "L" at the end other doesnt? If anyone knows if these monitors are the same please let me know. Thanks again for any help!

We don't carry any DVD players for now, I had to prioritize as far as the product line goes but I can help you with the monitor...
